That's is exactly why I don't buy it though, It offers essentially no special utility, it solves not problem, and has never really peaked my interest, XMR has some unique traits - ASIC resistance etc.. ZEC has a great wallet, and both unshielded and shielded TX's and both have a semi decent exchange presence. ZEC is especially intriguing being that is it fixed. LTC doesn't solve an obvious problem to me.

I'm seeing that XMR price has been stable, and risen quite a bit. Just a few months ago it was hovering around $160, and now we are seeing it holding at $500. This is quite strange to me as XMR is usually a currency of exchange and not necessarily a currency to hold. Most use it to "wash" BTC or other coins. Monero is the gold standard for privacy coins and private transactions albeit the transfers and the wallets can be a little finnicky.
In recent searches, I am seeing that this demand is coming from XMR being added to the THORChain as a native currency. I understand that having another DEX is a nice thing to have, but I do not understand the reason for the elevated and hold prices at above $500, which is quite close to its ATH of $614. There has been some volatility, but it has not really dropped below $480.
So here are some questions that I hope some of you can help me understand:
1. Why is XMR being added to the THORChain so significant that it is holding close to ATH, or am I missing another Macro event that is causing this?
2. XMR can already be bought cheaply enough through Trocador, ChangeNOW and other exchanges, that have good KYC policies. Why would THORChain be any better?
3. If not being added to the THORChain, the other narrative is one of privacy. You can have a private BTC account connected to Goblin Card without using XMR, which has a higher deposit rate. BTC is also accepted far more readily and widely. What are the possible reasons that one would hold XMR.
I want to be clear about something though - I genuinely thing Monero is an excellent community backed project that is serious about privacy as opposed to other supposed privacy coins. However, most of the money in XMR seems to be retain and small-time investors and holding it as a store of value seems unwise to me.
This is my first post, and I'm hoping to learn something from all of you. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Extremely high fees and slow transactions.
The network is primitive and does not have the scalability to possibly handle worldwide use (like the whitepaper vision "eCash").
So BTCers pivoted to a "digital gold" narrative. Which is fair enough, as that's all BTC can really do. It's the most trusted, established scarce digital network.
The top 5 fairly launched PoW coins (like BTC) are:
1. KAS
2. XEC
3. BCH
4. LTC
5. XMR
Orderd by fast/cheap transactions and high scalability.

LTC is respectable for its fair launch, robust security and decentralization, but it simply not fast/cheap/scalable enough to compete with other next gen PoW (or PoS) coins.
Top 5 fairly launched PoW coins (ordered by top speed, scalability, and low fees):
1. KAS
2. XEC
3. BCH
4. LTC
5. XMR
These are all more trustworthy than the ocean of corpo PoS L1s, but only the top few would be capable of scaling to worldwide use.
Not to mention niche use cases like micropayments, carbon tracking, smart contracts, etc. Then KAS becomes the super obvious winner. Or XMR if you need privacy now (otherwise KAS will eventually develop that too).

That https://8333.mobi/ looks reasonable to me at first sight.
Thus maybe, if you want to further the use of Monero in Africa, maybe try to achieve it *somehow* that 8333.mobi comes around to support XMR as well as BTC?

Not sure I understand the question. Feature phones cannot run Monero wallet apps, only smartphones can, and running a wallet might also cause quite some traffic, not ideal if you use mobile networks instead of a WLAN.
Seem to me, if you want to user feature phones, you need some kind of scheme that includes trust and a custodian somewhere who holds your XMR. And that would negate a lot of the advantages of using Monero in the first place.
