I'm led to believe that $POCI is offering something critical to this next generation of laser satellite communication.
About 2 months ago I released an article discussing Precision Optics , a legacy medtech component supplier being pulled into aerospace/defense. We discussed these new , high growth segments, and have seen a couple new orders since then. Here is that article
[https://www.reddit.com/r/pennystocks/s/xGC9eJ2u2R](https://www.reddit.com/r/pennystocks/s/xGC9eJ2u2R)
In this new article, I set out to focus on the sole technical moat:
Why are these micro components suddenly in demand? What can POCI do that others cannot? How are they making some of the smallest components in the world? etc
# Prisms
$POCI holds a distinct manufacturing moat at the micro-scale: glass prisms down to 50 microns
While legacy ITAR suppliers hit a manufacturing wall at 200 microns because conventional CNC tools crush glass that small or suffer astronomical scrap rates,
$POCI has its micro-precisionâ„¢ technology, supported by custom micro lapping and vacuum handling systems built specifically for sub millimeter glass to cleanly fabricate optics at a sub 100 micron scale that competitors cannot match.
# Why are they important now?
Previously, spaceborne laser communications relied on fibers with a 125-micron outer cladding.
Here’s the problem: legacy 200 micron prisms overhang a 125 micron fiber face. In dense, multi channel optical arrays, that overhang causes adjacent prisms to physically collide, clip incoming signals, or snag on protective housing.
$POCI’s ability to manufacture sub 125 micron prisms means the optic sits completely flush with the fiber. This eliminates channel collision and optical crosstalk entirely.
# Reduced Fiber Cladding / SWaP
As satellite OEMs push for reduced fiber cladding down to 100 microns or less to save weight and maximize payload density, the need for smaller optics is just beginning. A 100 micron fiber requires a matching 100 micron prism.
$POCI already has the micro handling and lapping infrastructure to produce glass down to 50 microns.
Conventional optics manufacturers struggle at sub 100 micron scales, $POCI has decades of experience in sub millimeter medical optics giving them an immediate advantage.
As spaceborne laser links shrink to pack maximum bandwidth into minimal SWaP profile , $POCI holds a clear head start in high density optical link manufacturing.
# 4f Optical Configuration
In optical inter satellite links, a 4f system is used to relay optical signals from dense fiber feeds to fine steering mirrors and detector arrays without introducing spatial distortion.
Ross Optical specializes in 4f systems and has a white page on them going into extreme detail , listing many use cases beyond just telecommunications.

In the standard 4f setup shown above, incoming laser paths (the red lines) would traditionally require long, straight optical runs from the fiber array.
By mounting a sub 100 micron prism directly on the fiber tip at Input Plane P1, POCI bends the laser beam 90 degrees . This right angle fold eliminates channel crosstalk, stops signal noise before light ever hits lens L1, and dramatically shrinks the terminal's physical footprint.
Just to be clear, this is INSIDE of the Optical Communication Terminal
# Fourier Optics
As nextgen satellites look to use more advanced optical links, Fourier optics have become essential, using 4f relays to passively clean signals and filter noise at the speed of light.
At the heart of these relays are specialized micro-prisms placed directly at the Fourier plane to split, steer, and fold the optical path within ultra compact satellite chassis.
Fabricating these micro-prisms at sub 100 micron scales with razor sharp tolerances crushes conventional tooling, creating a massive manufacturing bottleneck for legacy suppliers.
$POCI solves this by precision cutting these micro prisms and packaging them into pre aligned, plug-and-play 4f assemblies for satellite primes.
# The Optomechanical Assembly

Micro-prisms are just the entry point.
A complete satellite laser communications terminal needs a full setup of precision optics to work:
* collimating lenses
\-0.37mm micro-lenses directly attached to the satellite's fiber-optic endpoints.
\-catches the widening cone of raw data light exiting the fiber , parallelizes it into a perfectly straight, sub-millimeter pencil beam before it enters the main 4f loop.
* Relay Doublets
\-Grinding and alignment-matching custom achromatic micro-doublets made of paired crown and flint glass.
\-act as the primary structural lenses that form the 4f spacing, ensuring that different wavelengths of tracking and data lasers focus at the exact same spatial points without chromatic distortion.
* Custom Coatings
\-High-Efficiency Anti-Reflective Coatings - prevents signal loss by letting nearly 100% of the laser pass through the 0.37mm collimating lenses.
\-Dichroic & Wavelength Filters - routes the tracking beacon and high speed data laser to separate sensors, preventing signal interference.
\-Polarizing Coatings - Isolates outgoing and incoming signals so the high power transmitter doesn't blind the satellite's sensitive receiver.
\-High Laser Damage Threshold - stops intense, continuous-wave data lasers from burning, melting, or cracking the micro optics over years in space
Through Ross Optical, $POCI already makes all of these components and has the ITAR registered cleanrooms to put them together.
Instead of satellite OEMs buying micro prisms from $POCI and sourcing the rest from separate vendors, $POCI can build and test the entire integrated sub assembly inhouse.
# The Supply Crunch
The Space Development Agency publicly cited Optical Communication Terminals and lower-tier optical component shortages as a primary driver pushing back its several billion dollar Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture launches.
The demand for these terminals is far outpacing what defense and space industries can actually build. Between the Space Development Agency’s constellation rollouts and commercial space programs, thousands of LEO satellites are scheduled to launch and every single one requires 2 to 4 Optical Communication Terminals to link up in orbit. As constellations push for higher data density in smaller payloads, $POCI’s micro optical manufacturing moves from an advanced design choice to an operational requirement.
# The Potential
The opportunity and scaleability potential of $POCI is undeniable. While the shelf offering remains, and dillution could happen anytime , the reward outweighs the risk here for me.
Last quarter, the aerospace customer made up 41% of all revenues, and with 4 more satellite programs expected to go into production before may 2027, the revenue models start to look very attractive.
My thesis is Precision Optics has scaled manufacturing capability in the last 1-2 years to prepare for a large influx in aerospace/defense orders.
Between these new segments and the legacy medtech business thriving with partners like Omnivision , this stock is trading cheap at 1.6x p/s and a 50m market cap. Below is a timeline that backs the thesis up through a timeline highlighting facility expansion, new hires etc.
