My LCS has a 'cull' box of silver rounds usually at spot plus $1. There are ASEs in there along with generic rounds, some weirdly toned, colorized, maybe some field marks or a small ding on the edge reeding. I'll pick through them, buy a few, knowing they are essentially melt only clean them up with IPA or EZ-est and end up with some really nice pieces that I can touch without worry.
The nicer ASEs in BU my LCS sells come in flips and are closer to spot + $4. These I try not to manhandle, holding by the edges only with clean hands. So best of both worlds.
I agree sealed tubes should probably remain sealed for as long as possible. But the reality is when selling the buyer very well might want to verify the contents. I'm not sure any premium for being sealed is sufficiently large to make a difference, a couple of dollars per tube perhaps?
There is a sub-group of ASE collectors that pay premiums for the rare dates or condition more like numismatic collecting on top of bullion stacking. These collectors usually want slabbed and top graded ones from the well know grading companies - PCGS, NGC or CAC. When silver prices when sub $35/oz or so the top graded premiums where $10 to $25 depending on the coin, so almost double in some cases. But when silver prices skyrocketed the graded premiums dropped to about the cost of slabbing the coin.
Long story short, handle your eagles responsibly. And perhaps separate you eagles into 'just silver bullion' and 'might have a small additional premium because of condition'. Then treat those groups differently.

A few quick questions.
Are loose handled ASE worth less?
If you buy a tube of 20 ASE should you not open it or touch them?
If you dont open them how do you verify that you actually got silver?

If I walked into a LCS and I asked to see a silver eagle , then the man grabbed a loose coin out of the display case with his bare hands making contact with the metal does the coin no longer carry the "premium"?
New buying here and trying not to make any rookie mistakes. Thanks for the help and sorry if they sound dumb.

I stoped buying online.. my LCS has been selling to me at spot or very close to spot, and I buy all premium. I just drop by every few days and check out what they have. They sometimes save me stuff I like. I first built a cool relationship with them and they take care of me

Never had that problem at the LCS I go too, they never tried to hustle me, in fact they even steer me away from a ASE because he said the premium atm isn’t worth it and told me to take the premium i saved from that and put it towards my next weeks buy. More silver for less money.

Younger millennial here! I’ve been stacking for 1.5 years now. Just go in there one day, ask him how his day is going, pay in cash and quickly grab a few things that you know he’ll likely have in stock in advance (junk silver, silver Morgan/Peace dollars, ASE coins, maybe one of the rounds he’s selling that you like the design of, etc.). I guarantee he’ll warm up to you and be more delightful going forward once he sees you walk out with a few coins you purchased. Probably will be nicer and not follow you around after that, when you stop in going forward. Does you a solid if you ever need to quickly sell off a few things for quick cash someday, too. LCS do have better in-store deals than the internet dealers do on a much higher percentage basis.

And there's no guarantee to LCS will pay spot price.
Hell, local shops in my area closed it doors when the priced spiked above $80.
Imo silver is a fun hobby, not a great investment.

Not a bad deal on those Morgans either! It is worth building that relationship with your LCS. Who knows what deals they’ll make!

My LCS sold me Morgan’s yesterday at $55. He quoted me $100 per onza. So I’d say you’re doing ok.

I have 2 LCS close to me, one has more coin store feel. The other is definitely more buy, sell bullion. The coin shop one was 65.00 and the bullion place was 48.00 for AU peace dollars. So I got 2. This was last weekend.

I make like 65K a year , barely ever have money to invest but managed to get my silver stack up to 40oz cause I got in mostly around $30-$50 range but just recently had to sell 20oz to help my kids mom pay her rent that was several months late. She says she will pay me back next tax refund but damn I still miss that silver I had to sell some cool pieces to my LCS 😔. I invest in the stock market & crypto too just doing everything I can to try and make something happen. I should be rich in crypto by now I've been trading for 10 years missed a ton of life changing opportunities but what can you do no sense crying about it just have to keep trying. I will buy that silver back though ! I have a pic of what I sold so I know what I need to get back 😀

My LCS and one I traveled to out of the area had Morgans at just below melt two and three weeks ago, respectively. They had many pre-21, some fine+ and even some nice toned ones at that price. I have not checked back more recently.

I started stacking this year… and only bought premium stuff. Over the last few months my LCS had been charging me spot for most of my purchases. So it doesn’t make sense for me to buy generics. However it if I ever had to sell some of my stuff I would definitely struggle to decide what to let go first. That’s the only reason I regret not buying generics lol

I have seen them in LCS for generic prices and also marked up . Just depends on the store or online .. the usvi horizontal bar’s are going for a pretty nice amount right now if you look them up on EBay . all of the silver I have bought was under 30$ oz . Only piece of silver I have bought this year was a 2024 1/10th libertad ms70 just cause I have never been able to get ahold of one and that was a premium.

No, it’s what he’s saying he pays as a LCS. PMs for sale will get you 80% at best for Sterling though.
If you ever get 23lbs of Sterling or more it’s better to go to the refiner directly where you’ll get 90% Since most people don’t accumulate that much, they go to an LCS and this is where they make their margin. Because they then go directly to the refinery and get the 90%.

The little chunky ones are my all time favorite bar. I've always bought every single one I've seen at my LCS,
