u/coinbasesupport I have a similar issue. I was just chatting with someone through the app but the app stopped working as I've now moved to India where it's not operational anymore. I was able to change the country through my ID, but unable to change my phone number so I'm essentially locked out of my account. Case number 16700358

So then most likely when you clicked that link with the token ID it was actually confirming the transaction and not stopping it.

On September 16, 2023 I received a message that my account will soon be deleted and to withdraw all funds. At first I though I was being scammed, after I verified that this was infact real, I really didn’t know what to think but I wanted my funds out so I tried to send crypto to another wallet and it wouldn’t allow me, then I sold assets at a loss plus fees, total left was $13695. When I went to withdraw the remaining funds it gave me an error message asking to withdraw $3400 to a bank account that doesn’t exists in collections for almost two years. So now I have $13695 held, I opened a ticket and sent a picture of myself and driver’s license like asked. I’ve been left in the dark, how can this be legal holding funds, even if I did owe the $3400 why is the remaining funds also held???? Hopefully Reddit can help my stressful issue. Thanks

tldr; A Kenyan parliamentary panel has called for the shutdown of cryptocurrency project Worldcoin within the country until stricter regulations are put in place. The government had previously suspended the project due to privacy concerns over the scanning of users' irises for a digital ID. The panel also called for the suspension of Worldcoin's physical presence in Kenya and the development of regulations for crypto assets and firms. The report will be considered by the National Assembly at a later date.

These are the important questions and to wash it all away with a simple "oh you got scammed, they can do anything once they are in" is unjust. I thought all of these processes needed approval. But my best guess is when I verified my ID they were able to disable all the security measures, 2FA is not required and disabled all notifications.

iOS CoinJar app seems like it was written by someone learning how to make an app and didn't even bother finishing it.
First, the CoinJar website is broken, the verify ID button doesn't do anything, mobile app crashes way too often. App can't even refresh the balance properly after a trade, you have to go all the way back to the Home Screen and go back into your accounts. Menu often gives no signs of life until you press a few times and then it opens a dialog 10 times in a row
Then finally managed to deposit money through my card, bought LTC ($5), went to transfer it, “This transfer would cause the account to breach balance reserve requirements”, Google the meaning, oh, funds are locked for 7 days nice, could've told me on the screen when buying it else I wouldn't have bothered,
So I deposited again but this time through bank transfer as online it said it wouldn't be locked. Okay good, now I bought lite coin again, went to transfer, transfer pending wooo. Wait hang on, "Your transaction has been placed on hold", I need to give them the full name or company of the receiver and on what exchange their address is hosted.
Gave them a made up name as I don't know what their name is, its just a thing im buying from a shoppy.gg site, and the form is broken, can't seem to press "Coinbase" drop down, now have to wait for an email for them to decide if I can transfer my crypto.
Holy shit, $5 transaction took me 30+ minutes. Crypto in the UK is literally a piss take, wish I could still deposit directly into binance

Giving up privacy for convenience one little freedom at a time is exactly how we've been sleeprunning into a government-backed corporate dystopia. At this point, I've just accepted that most people don't care, and that whatever world we're allowing to happen IS going to happen as long as people rank convenience above autonomy. It's why we now have facial/license plate recognition cameras on our roads, digital ID's, CBDC's/the mere idea of a cashless world, the enshittification of the internet as a whole, etc.
Also, personally? It'll give me one MORE thing to worry about. I recently took a trip cross country, and more than once, was forced to use cash due to the network being down (this was in outback Australia, and it was down for a full two days.) A cashless society would have seen me stranded until things came back online. Also, it isn't any of the government's fucking business what I spend my money on. When I use cash, it's a truly private transaction between me and the other party.
DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR PRIVACY FOR CONVENIENCE. YOU WON'T GET IT BACK.

Question:
Is it legit at all that coinbase, to get you back into your account after being locked out, requests a copy of your drivers license back and front as well as a picture of you holding the ID?
I am 100% positive when i directly went to [coinbase.com](https://coinbase.com) it made me do so.
I also still have the email (with legit headers from [coinbase.com](https://coinbase.com) including DKIM signature) saying:
To regain access to your account, please complete the following identity verification steps. You’ll need to use a computer or other device with an integrated camera or a webcam, and a browser instead of the Coinbase app.

1. Sign in to your Coinbase account using your email and password: https://www.coinbase.com/signin
2. Complete 2-step verification as you normally would.
3. Upload or snap pictures of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID. If you are taking the photos with your device’s camera, make sure your ID is clearly visible.
4. Using your device’s camera, take a live photo of your face and upload it. Be sure the photo is well-lit (natural light works best) and clear.
5. Watch for an email indicating that your identity has been verified. For security reasons, this process usually takes 48 hours to complete but can sometimes take longer.
6. Sign in to your account and reset your password.

> So I start the process of logging back in and 2FA, not working and being kind of glitchy
um... ok but already sus.
>I get a phone call in this moment
uh oh, well clearly it's common sense NOT to provide any personal information unless YOU CALL THEM. This goes for all things... not just crypto.

> I often get calls from my bank so I felt this was pretty normal.
No you don't, they would never call you for personal information and tell you to login with your 2FA. That is always a scam

>They simply instructed me to continue the login process and 2FA.
You should never do this on the phone for anyone, even you calling them. If they are with the company they won't need you to login to anything.
>They simply instructed me to continue the login process and 2FA. This entire time I am on REAL coinbase(dot)com. I keep checking my web browser tab every new page that loads. Now all my 2FA keys are going off. Google authenticator and text messages with codes. I accepted the google confirm because it showed my current location and I assumed my Coinbase account was linked to my google account...
JFC!

>The last step of login was to verify my drivers license, STILL ON COINBASE(DOT)COM. This was when I thought ok this is a little much... but I am unable to access my app still. So I go through with it, this step opened a 3rd party ID Verify page, standard.
OMFG.... hackers were hi-fiving at this point.....
You were socially engineered for your login info, this isn't coinbase's fault. ANY of your personal accounts would have been compromised if they did said attack on any of your other providers. You also need to lock down your credit, change any passwords, probably going to be a good SIM swap target as they have your number and full ID..... ouch man, your ID has been stolen as well.

I am writing this post to bring awareness to something that seems like a massive problem and hopefully find some help as it clearly is not coming from Coinbase support. I was targeted by a sophisticated phishing scam which resulted in all my Coinbase assets being converted to BTC and then sent out as one BTC transaction, total time between first conversion and the final BTC transaction was 13 minutes.
This is the transaction. Some interesting stuff if you look through the wallets and how much BTC they have recieved in the last couple months. [https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/dd0945f95c8b6777b5699d98ae9a838991537e4a41628a3a13f2ae9d06322115](https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/transactions/btc/dd0945f95c8b6777b5699d98ae9a838991537e4a41628a3a13f2ae9d06322115)
Here is how the scam happened:
\*I never shared a wallet address, I never shared a 2FA code, I never confirmed a transaction, I never told any of my personal information over the phone, and definitely no seed phrase. To me, these were the rules to follow. It seems somehow by me confirming my identity on my device the perpetrators were able to execute these transactions from their own device in an unprecedented amount of time\*

I received a Coinbase email notifying me of suspicious activity for login attempt and then another email of a customer support case number. The customer support email states "We'll be in contact with you as soon as possible". I check out both emails, real 100% from Coinbase. So I go check my Coinbase app and I am logged out. So I start the process of logging back in and 2FA, not working and being kind of glitchy. I get a phone call in this moment, frustrated on the crowded city street walking home, I answer the phone because no signs of being a phony phone call. The caller is totally normal, native english speaker telling me they are calling from Coinbase support. They explain exactly what I am experiencing and tell me we can resolve it by locking my account. They confirm their identity to me by providing the customer support case number that I had just received an email about. I often get calls from my bank so I felt this was pretty normal. My guard immediately went down because of this confirmation of the ticket number and thinking oh the email said they will be in contact as soon as possible.
They simply instructed me to continue the login process and 2FA. This entire time I am on REAL coinbase(dot)com. I keep checking my web browser tab every new page that loads. Now all my 2FA keys are going off. Google authenticator and text messages with codes. I accepted the google confirm because it showed my current location and I assumed my Coinbase account was linked to my google account... along with every other secure account I use. I assume this is where the waterfall began...
The last step of login was to verify my drivers license, STILL ON COINBASE(DOT)COM. This was when I thought ok this is a little much... but I am unable to access my app still. So I go through with it, this step opened a 3rd party ID Verify page, standard. Finally I am able to sign into my account and it is asking me to review activity, email change-transaction attempts etc. I deny all of the activity and proceed to lock my account to prevent anything worse. The phone call is ending and everything seems fine. I get home and try to login from my computer, nothing working. 30 minutes have passed since last phone call, now I call customer support number on coinbase website and say hey I just got off the phone and here is my ticket number. First thing they say over the phone "oh no.." My heart SANK as I immediately realized what had happened...

A little more info-
I went back through my phone browser history and at one point my history shows I visited a url "setcoinbase(dot)com" which is obviously not real. So they could have been getting all the information that way. But that url was between two visits visits of real coinbase website. My best guess is at one point when I was 2FA I clicked a link that wasn't real. The coinbase emails were REAL, however they were auto generated because the fraudsters were pretending to be me and opening a support ticket, so they could see the ticket number too. The coinbase representative knew exactly about this scam, so how is this claim support ticket number still a function on their website? Seems like pretty obvious negligence to me. Coinbase has offered no help in this situation, all scripted response emails and phone calls. And finish everything by stating "we will cooperate with all law enforcement". There seems to be no investigation on their side. Turning their shoulder to me and leaving me in the wind. A long time customer who has held 100k USD + of assets and hundreds of transactions with coinbase fees. I chose this product because they market themselves as the premium crypto manager for custody and exchange. There is no protection for their customers.
I have filed reports in all the obvious channels, federal and local. Left a voicemail at the DA crypto crime team. If there are other avenues I should explore please let me know, or any advice with getting through to someone at coinbase.

**Step 1 Setup a wallet** , and backup your words to keep them secret and private.
Read the FAQ - https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinBeginners/comments/g42ijd/faq_for_beginners/
Here are some good wallets for beginners and video tutorials-
**Blockstream Green Wallet** IOS and android wallet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO3Zi9D5b0Y
https://blockstream.com/green/
**Step 2 Buy BTC and transfer it to your personal wallet**- For most the best way to buy BTC is with **strike.me app** -
Verification either is instant or can take a couple days once you verify your phone, email and ID.
If you need BTC slightly quicker or need to pay in cash than https://coinatmradar.com but fees are at least 7% and higher
If you are out of the US or buying larger amounts of bitcoin than look into coinbase pro, gemini active trader , or kraken
