I'm currently interviewing for a securities valuation analyst role at JPMC. I'm trying to pivot into quant developer role. Currently, I'm working as a data analyst and I just got promoted to senior analyst for finops telecommunication company. The pay between the two roles are similar with the valuation role being higher. I'm still preparing myself for the transition learning C++ and building market maker/volatility engines. I still need more time and not ready yet, but I'm also preparing for graduate school. Would the job switch help or hurt me in trying to become a quant ?
Plan B was to be a data scientist but in my current role. I'm not touching Python, mainly using SQL. I only use Python for ETL processing into our database from third party vendors.

I would love to hear another person's opinion if this would be the better choice.
