I’ve been digging into the Drift Protocol exploit from a few days ago where $285M was drained, and the post-mortem is creating a massive divide in the dev community.
For those who missed it: The attacker used a fake token (CVT) and wash-traded it into becoming "legitimate" collateral, but the actual execution relied on **durable nonces** to bypass circuit breakers.
**The Debate:**
* **Side A:** It’s 100% on Drift. They didn't audit the new CVT market introduction properly, and their circuit breakers failed to fire because the transactions were pre-signed.
* **Side B:** Solana’s "durable nonce" feature—while useful for offline signing—created a unique blind spot that standard DeFi security isn't built for yet.
Circle is also getting heat for not freezing the USDC once it bridged to Ethereum.
Does a hack this large make you rethink holding assets in Solana DeFi, or is this just the growing pains of a chain that moves faster than its auditors can keep up with? Curious to hear from anyone who actually lost funds or is building on Solana right now.
