I work in consumer entertainment and broadcasting streaming related field. So far it was international companies. Nothing super special. Lots of new technology being slowly introduced to improve quality of experience. That's been the common theme. I that's the norm.

Then I join out great JioHotstar.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

It's horrible. They have some engineering team but absolutely nothing happening in technology improvement at all.

Starting with technology used for streaming. They stick to existing open source codecs or license some low quality stuff from Dolby and fraunhafer.

Then, while companies like peacock, Disney are improving monetisation with improvement in premium content , advanced codecs to reduce infrastructure costs etc, jio just let's things drop.
THATS THE REASON If YOU HAVE NOTICED VIDEO DROPW, AUDIO DROPS, POOR QUALITY compared to other services.

In fact it's completely acceptable to deliver lower resolution even for the premium customers with "asli HD".

From subscription charges to making it tough to cancel to simply delivering low quality streaming, everything is completely fine.

The engineering teams they have is only and only focused on mining your data to sell it or monetize for other reliance products. The other work is to add advertisement in between content.

They don't invest in one single element.

It's scary how normalized and acceptable this mindset is.
