It's not the story NOW, he went "missing" after his comment that banks were old school and the future of banking was the ANT model. Which was what prompted the authorities to look into his model and found it to be a disaster. Every economist and banker at the time agreed the CCP should have looked into it way earlier. ANT group was forced to reform to comply with Banking regulations. I don't know why making an online loan platform follow bank regulation is controversial.

Nothing. His ANT group was providing unsecured loans without proper regulations and would have been the Lehman Brothers of China had it been allowed to IPO. The Chinese authorities did the right thing to force them to follow banking regulations. Jack Ma just kept a low profile after that so he doesn't get into even more trouble.
