I didn't elaborate my entire strategy with the margin account. But yes. It's part of my risk return.
5k on margin (additional 4k of buying power) equates to an account at 8 to 10k depending the margin.
If I do a day/swing buy in a week that was 1k and gained an additional, 100 to 250, I typically take that gain and put half in an index I prefer (such as EIT, XEI, VDY), a quarter in a CC ETF like HHIS, ECHI or BANK. And the final quarter in a single stock such as PZA, SIA, SGR, AP and AQN.
This equates to the 110% gain over 1 year as apx. 30 to 45 of that gain is from the returns reinvested in those sectors and the remaining gain from trading.
As I said, the higher risk portion is 5k (which keeps growing from the reinvested returns) on margin. This is unrelated to my TFSA which holds predominantly Index ETFs with few single stocks which are usually safe (currently CU and I sold ENB a couple months ago)
