Personally this is how I have structured it:
I own about 18% of my portfolio in PHYS/KILO.B. I am fundamentally bullish on the price of gold over the next 2-10 years. Although gold may not have as much torque, and may have periods of consolidation like now, as an overall portfolio diversifier, it's incredibly effective.
I own about 2.5% of Silver via SBT.B and SLV. I am bullish on silver as history shows it has vicious and volatile rallies that take participants by surprise. It has industrial applications that are relevant as well. I own less because if it rallies like I expect. It will grow naturally.
I own about 1% of PALL. (Physical Palladium). Palladium is rarer that both gold and silver and is currently under the cost production. It's a mostly industrial metal, but has historically had periods of insane performance during precious metal bull cycles. I intend to increase this position slightly soon. But do not need it much larger as it will likely grow naturally from the low levels it stands at presently.
Other than that. I own some individual names in gold miners and silver miners. I use DXAU as my ETF exposure because the manager will select some of the developer equities that I do not have the expertise in evaluating. If the Gold Bull cycle is still in its earnest as I suspect. Small/ Mid Cap developers and deposits should do very well in that environment.
Lastly. I do not recommend using any ETF with a currency hedge. It's not necessary for precious metals.
