There are Canadian ETFs that do well when the market goes down. CNDD is a 2x TSX60 bear fund. If the TSX60 goes down 2% it goes up 4%. HQD is a 2x Nasdaq bear fund. If the Nasdaq goes down 3% it goes up 6%. Long term these are all loser as the market historically has gone up but if you time it right these can make some money. With markets near all time highs and Trump intent on disrupting the world economy I’m thinking it may be time to hedge against a market downturn. I’ve been raising my cash allocation and have got a small portion of my account (less than 2%) in these funds.
