A recap of this past week's MoneyShow Toronto. The general consensus of all speakers was still bullish overall on the markets. Bipan Rai from BMO GAM presented an interesting economic analysis paralleling the trials of the hero in The Odyssey.
David Rosenberg brought up indicators of a financial bubble. The K-shapes remind us that the economic growth this year can be entirely attributed to AI and data centers, with the rest of the economy being flat. He was the only bearish voice amongst the speakers.
Mateo Marks presented on asset allocation strategies, with a very interesting chart showing YOY winners by asset class. It's a very important reminder that a balanced asset allocation is the best way to preserve and grow wealth.
Anas Alhajji provided very unique insights into the current energy crisis resulting from the Strait of Hormuz closure. His data points to immediate wins by refining stocks (VLO and MPC), but longer term gaps in supply winners resulting from loss of Middle East refining capacity. Those are byproducts of crude refining, mainly Diesel, Sulfur, Helium, Fertilizer and other commodities.
Ryan Irvine went over his tips for hunting small and micro-cap companies for potential 10x growth. He brought up his past success with Hammond Power (HPS-A.TO), and Boyd Group (BYD.TO). IMO, Hammond has some momentum left with the AI buildout. Boyd Group had a YTD drop, but still a good balance sheet and the Board has authorized a share repurchase program.
It was my first time attending Money Show Toronto, but in my opinion it was worth it
