A good starting project would be to see if you find some statements from those accounts and understand how they're performing. Investments are usually measured by APY - annual percentage yeild. Your statement will typically show how much money you've put in over the year and how much the value has increased (or decreased in bad years). Do a little research on different types of investments and what they could be earning. You might find what the bank is offering isn't that great - it's usually not.
