Covered calls can be useful for specific periods of time and at specific periods in your life. They're not a long term investment.
For example, as tech began to go down the hole, I put money into BK on a temporary basis that has gone on longer than I had expected. It's one of the top-performing funds in Canada this year (and last year) and has a 10%+ yield paid monthly. It has outdone almost all tech funds this year AND last year. I wish I'd put all my money into it a year and a half ago.
Will it do 82% a year? Hell no! But for now, it's seeing me through a lot of the volatility the orange man and semi/memory selloffs are creating.
