I kind of agree with both of you. 8 to 10% is a waste of time when you can get that without the time and risk of options. But a brand new trader with limited knowledge and experience plus capital limits needs to start with very low expectations.
It is super easy to mismanage a position, get burned my macros, or get stuck bag holding as a beginner in ways that are going to ding that annual return. Honestly, I think not losing any money is a great goal for year 1. Especially when the psychological temptation of fixing a bad trade with higher risk trades hits and bad stuff snowballs.
Now, if you have been doing it for years and you are not beating a CCETF, then it is more for entertainment than practical value, especially with the tax advantages those offer.
