I've been investing seriously for \~15 years. I have absolutely slaughtered the market, but I don't have a specific return number.
I've taken extremely unpopular (at the time) long positions on Tesla (2016), Bitcoin (2017), Williams Sonoma (2019), Crocs (many times through the years), WBD (2024), and more than I can count. I'm not worried about my long term track record. I have made some serious mistakes too, like in 2020 when I thought remote work and some other changes would be more permanent than they were, so definitely I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I have done pretty well.
For shorts, I shorted NKLA, GOEV, GETR, WeWork, MULN/BINI, AREB, and seriously like probably 2 dozen other companies that I all correctly called bankruptcy on. The only ones that haven't gone bankrupt yet are PLUG, PCT, and I think a couple others (I'm no longer short any companies other than NVDA due to retail gambling melt-up risk in this final year of the AI bubble). I also shorted companies like ORCL and CRWV but do not expect them to be bankrupt (not soon anyways).
So I'm pretty good at identifying shorts. All of these shorts had the same kind of people making the same kinds of comments. History doesn't repeat but it sure does rhyme.
All I'm saying is give it time, and I'm pretty sure my thesis will turn out correct.
