That's simply not true though - even just in Austin.
These are current AV taxi operators in Austin Texas:
Testing Phase: ADMT (VW). AVRide (AVRide Inc), Tesla, Zoox (Amazon)
Mapping Phase: Motional (Hyundai)
Deployment Phase: Waymo (Google)
So Waymo actually launched it's service - while Tesla has been behind schedule on this promise for over 5 years.

Tesla is not the first and not the most special AV (autonomous vehicle) taxi in Austin.
Example - current AV taxi operators in Austin TX:
Testing Phase: ADMT (VW). AVRide (AVRide Inc), Tesla, Zoox (Amazon)
Mapping Phase: Motional (Hyundai)
Deployment Phase: Waymo (Google)
While all of these (except for Tesla) have public data (statistics about incidents, nr of drives etc) - Tesla has not released anything (ever) - and in addition has been trying to keep the NHTSA from releasing any of the records about them. Their system (FSD) is less robust than the other competitors listed above - and without radar and lidar they're at a direct disadvantage. And they are 5+ years behind competition in terms of practical experience and testing
Adding to that; there was an internal report from Tesla that leaked (about 2 months ago?) - that showed that Robotaxi would not be a profitable endeavor for Tesla (at least not in the next 5'ish years).
And a lesser known fact; self driving software performs best for the areas it is trained and developed on/for. So for example; Teslas Driving Assistance (they call it 'FSD') does not work well in China - while BYDs FSD does not work very well in Europe.
The difficult part about FSD are the edge cases. And there are many. That is why the experience Waymo has for example is so important. Safety should be the top priority, because incidents can be fatal and expensive. But for Elon the priority is cost
So yeah let's see...
(btw I did not cover everything here - but I am super not confident in Teslas Robotaxis - and I'm super into self driving systems - but didn't want to make the post even longer)
