Can someone help me?
I bought SGB from Groww platform when the tranche was announced. I didn't buy an existing SGB. I subscribed and gpt the bond. Am I safe from the taxation?

I always planned to hold to term or close to term, but now i worry that because of this, there will be huge amounts of forced selling at the close date of the SGB, and we'll get bad rates on the exit day. This will probably completely neutralize the tax advantage it would have given us anyway.
Vote smart and get these idiots out of power, so the next govt can repeal this

Yes, that's the sentiment behind the 10% drop in SGB prices today.

Bond price doesnt matter on Maturity, you will be paid as per the market price of Gold.
Atleast now trading in SGB will end, earlier SGBs were sold at a discount, now it will go back to it.
I am holding my SGBs & taxes dont seem unjustified to me. Look SGBs were launched in place of gov bonds, so that if gold price doesnt go up much, these bonds will be cheaper for govt to raise money. Now that the bonds have given higher return (expensive loan for gov), they are adding taxes (that too not as per your slab, but capital gain type).

No. You would not have to pay taxes in this case since the bond was still owned by you (same PAN) across the various demat accounts.
In other words, as long as an SGB is linked to a certain PAN from first issue by RBI till maturity after 8 years, that PAN would get tax exemption if there's any capital gains from that SGB.

One option is to do tax harvesting every year, to soften the blow of taxation in case it continues to raise. They are likely to increase the deduction as long as they are increasing the LTCG.
When you do tax harvesting in MFs you have to sell (long term units with gain) and buy at the same time before cut-off time of the day, to gate same price for buy and sell.
The SGB thing is unfortunate, its one of 0-taxed items which is actually burning a big hole for govt/RBI due to non-linear raise of gold price, so they are trying to get some tax out of it where possible. I don't think they would aggressively scale LTCG.

They can always do that.. and for SGB I guess the tax implication is for people who have bought the bonds from secondary market and will not hold the bond for the entire 8 years period.

Servus zusammen,
Was mir dabei besonders auffällt– gerade für deutschland:
**Progression & Grenzbelastung:**
**Teilzeitquote in DE:**

Started buying Gold ETF & SGB. Can keep for the long term. Might just sell if it touches all time high again.

I know this feels like betrayal but then again what can we do. We can’t fight the government and win. So let the new tax sink in and then stay put in the SGB. I know it hurts to see loosing the notional gains but we all need to come over this feeling

Yeah, I have 100g that I bought on the RBI retail direct channel. I will hold to maturity and I do not even see any option to sell there.
IMO it is a good move by the government, SGB was not meant to be a speculative asset but to function as a wealth preservation tool.

See,
Not every tom dick and harry has SGB.
But, mostly Indians has PPF and SSY and EPF, plus this is a legit source of funds for govt with long lock-in periods.
