What's up everyone,
AI gets the hype. Mining gets the data. The real story might be what happens when the two finally start talking to each other.
When people talk about artificial intelligence, the conversation usually goes toward chatbots, coding tools, and image generators.
A sector that gets much less attention is mining.
Modern mining operations produce huge amounts of data from drilling programs, geological surveys, equipment sensors, production systems, and environmental monitoring. The challenge is turning all that information into better decisions.
AI tools are already being explored for tasks like finding drilling targets, improving geological models, planning mine operations, monitoring equipment performance, improving worker safety, and reducing unnecessary exploration costs.
As mining companies collect more data and operations become more automated, software could become a much bigger part of how mines are discovered, built, and managed.
That's why I've been looking at exploration companies that are advancing mineral projects while also adopting new technology.
A few names I'm following:
* Kodiak Copper ($KDK) - Continuing its expanded drill campaign at MPD, where ongoing exploration is creating a growing dataset that can support geological modeling and future resource work.
* American Eagle Gold ($AE) - Running more than 50,000 metres of drilling at NAK, producing a large amount of geological information that can be analyzed with modern modeling tools.
* NRED ($NRED / $NREDF) - Advancing the Wilmac copper-gold project while developing the MetalCore AI platform for geological analysis and exploring EyeX computer vision technology for mining operations.
* Faraday Copper ($FDY) - Moving the Copper Creek project forward through technical studies, engineering work, and resource modeling as the company evaluates development options.
* Kingfisher Metals ($KFR) - Expanding its Golden Triangle exploration portfolio after Barrick's strategic investment, while applying modern exploration methods across a large land package.
The AI story is usually told through the companies building software and data centers. There is another side of the equation: the industries that provide the raw materials and infrastructure needed for the next technology cycle.
Mining has always been a data-heavy business. The companies that combine strong mineral projects with better ways to analyze and use that data could have an advantage as the industry becomes more technology-driven.
Better algorithms won't drill a hole. But they might tell you exactly where to put the first one.

When most investors think about artificial intelligence, they immediately think of NVIDIA, AMD, Microsoft, OpenAI or Anthropic.
That makes sense. They're building the models, the chips and the cloud infrastructure powering today's AI boom.
But every major technology eventually moves beyond the companies that created it.
Electricity transformed manufacturing. The internet transformed retail. Cloud computing transformed enterprise software. AI is likely to follow the same path, becoming another layer of technology used across industries rather than a standalone sector.
Mining is one example that I think deserves more attention.
Exploration generates massive geological datasets. Modern mines rely on sensors, cameras, drones and equipment producing continuous streams of operational data. As AI tools improve, companies that successfully integrate data analysis, computer vision and automation could make exploration and mine operations more efficient over time.
**A few companies I'm watching in that context:**
* Kodiak Copper ($KDK) Continuing a fully funded multi-rig drill campaign at MPD, where expanding geological datasets support increasingly sophisticated targeting and resource modeling.
* Faraday Copper ($FDY) Advancing Copper Creek through engineering and development work where data-driven planning and optimization become increasingly important as projects mature.
* NRED ($NRED / $NREDF) Advancing the Wilmac copper-gold project while building the MetalCore AI platform and evaluating EyeX computer vision
* Kingfisher Metals ($KFR) Expanding its Golden Triangle portfolio following Barrick's strategic investment, combining district-scale exploration with modern geological interpretation techniques.
American Eagle Gold ($AE) Executing a year-round drilling campaign at NAK that continues building one of the larger exploration datasets among active Canadian copper-gold juniors.
The AI story doesn't end when a GPU leaves the factory. That's actually where the next chapter begins. Industries that generate large amounts of complex data will increasingly adopt AI to improve decisions, reduce costs and increase productivity. Mining may not receive the same attention as software today, but I think it has the potential to become one of the more interesting AI adoption stories over the coming decade.

Hey all,
Everyone is focused on AI chips right now, but I'm paying closer attention to the infrastructure needed to run them.
AMD recently announced a major AI infrastructure agreement with Anthropic, with plans for up to 2 gigawatts of next-generation computing capacity starting in 2027. Companies like NVIDIA, AMD, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Oracle, OpenAI, and xAI are all investing heavily in expanding AI capacity because demand is growing faster than new infrastructure can come online.
The part that interests me is what happens after the chips are installed.
Every large AI data center requires a massive physical buildout. That means power substations, transformers, switchgear, miles of heavy electrical cable, cooling systems, and reliable energy sources. Copper is a critical material in almost every part of that process.
As AI infrastructure spending moves from billions into the tens of billions, the conversation around supply becomes just as important as the conversation around computing power. The question becomes: where does the copper needed for all of this expansion actually come from?
That's why I've been spending more time looking at junior mining companies. The market usually pays attention to companies already producing metals, but future supply has to come from projects that are being explored and developed today.
A few names on my watchlist:
* Kodiak Copper ($KDK) - Running a fully funded 16,500-metre drill program at the MPD project with two rigs focused on expanding its porphyry copper system.
* NRED ($NRED / $NREDF) - Advancing the Wilmac copper-gold project near Hudbay's producing Copper Mountain Mine in British Columbia. The company is also working on its MetalCore AI platform for mineral exploration and exploring computer vision technology for mining applications.
* American Eagle Gold ($AE) - Planning more than 50,000 metres of drilling at NAK to define a large copper-gold system ahead of a maiden resource estimate.
* Hercules Metals ($BIG) - Continuing exploration at the Leviathan discovery in Idaho after raising C$31.5 million to fund additional drilling.
* Faraday Copper ($FDY) - Expanding the Copper Creek project after acquiring BHP's nearby San Manuel property, supported by a C$100 million financing backed by BHP and Lundin Mining.
The AI boom is creating demand across the entire supply chain. GPUs get most of the attention, but those GPUs need data centers, data centers need power, and power infrastructure needs raw materials.
Copper may end up being one of the biggest behind-the-scenes beneficiaries of the AI buildout.
2 gigawatts of compute needs miles of cable, substations, and transformers. The chips get the headlines - but the metals move the needle.
