SCHB is the scwab broad market etf, I’m guessing you mean SCMB - Schwab municipal bond ETF.

Not the worst idea to buy shares of SCHF and SCHB while putting the few dollars leftover into SWTSX and SWISX. Hard to DCA exact dollar ammounts with ETFs

If you’re in a high tax bracket, consider municipal bonds. Dividends are tax free. I use SCHB.

A great way to start is to pick a US fund and an international fund. Looks like you like Schwab and you're on the ETF sub, so something like SCHB and SCHF might be a good start. I'd suggest anywhere between an 80/20 and 60/40 split.

(will cross post in other subs)
Hi all,

Sorry to bother you with another of these
threads. For the first time in my life I'm planning on investing my entire life
savings so I'm a bit nervous (and yes taking advice from strangers).
I have a total of 330k cash. I'm planning on
investing 250k and putting 14.5k (2025 and 2026) into a newly opened roth IRA.
I'm planning on investing the money and not looking at it ever again. Maybe
open it when I have enough to invest more, but that's it.
I've been reading and learning a lot about
VOO, VT, VTI, QQQ, SCHB etc. and not sure where to go. Ideally I will have the
majority of the money sitting in one/two stocks and then maybe setting up a
little side dividends machine like SCHB to DRIP. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Here is where I landed. Figure keep brokerage simple and keep contributing. Tweak the Roth if needed over time since there are no tax implications. Let me know your honest opinions. FYI I am with Schwab. 37 at this time
Brokerage
• 70% SCHB (US total market)
• 30% SCHF (Developed inti)
Roth
• 50% SCHG (US large growth)
• 25% AVUV (US small value)
• 25% AVNM

Awesome awesome. Yea, I got SCHB because I could afford more than VTI. I researched an alternative for that one. I’ll research the other ones. I’m very familiar with bitcoin so got excited with IBIT. Because of the dip I started DCA’ing BTC again. But I’m half and half with Crypto, I think it’s a scam then I think it not 🫤
“Flexible cash” yea I knew I was gonna get hit on that one. Okay, so keep a thousand to live and invest the rest. Gotcha.
Thanks for the comment

HELL NO never have no flexible cash lying around in checking what happens if you get hit by a big Zelle by surprise?
Roth IRA: This is a target date fund. Basically you're paying a bit more expense ratio in exchange for active management of the stock/bond ratio to target 2060 retirement. Nothing wrong with that if it's what you want.
401k: This is kind of the opposite of a tech ETF, where it's specifically investing in industries people value less that may be undervalued by investors and have better fundamentals
Schwab/IRA: SCHB is a VTI equivalent. You are essentially doing the classic VTI/VXUS strategy with those two. Pretty good strategy.
Additionally you have ETFs dedicated to bitcoin, growth stocks and small caps. I recommend you actually figure out what these are doing if you're investing not just copying Reddit. If you don't want to do that stick it back in SCHB and VXUS.
Fidelity: SPAAX and SGOV are similar concepts, just one is a mutual fund and one an ETF. The gist of both is they are short term US Government treasuries, consistent fixed income investments with no upside. They're doing the same thing as your HYSA.

Not looking for financial advice just need help understanding my investments which I’ll continue till I’m dead, hopefully.
I started dumping about $500 every week into “savings” a few months ago. I can’t go wrong with buying so I’ll keep buying.
Not a clue what to invest in so I just copied whatever was popular.
I’m 36, live in the US and am a Union steamfitter.
**Pension, Roth IRA**: 5% per check ($100)
T. Rowe Price Retirement 2060 SA M
100% w/ $45k+
**Company 401k**: 5% per check ($100)
Vanguard Value Index Fund - Admiral Class
100% w/ $8k+
I haven’t touched either of those accounts. Those are the default investments. It’s for retirement, I know that much. I should probably diversify but that’s a topic for another post.
These next investments are what I copied off Reddit.
**Charles Schwab Portfolio**
Individual: $50 weekly
65% SCHB x76
20% vxus x8
5% schg x5
5% avuv x2
5% ibit x3
Roth IRA: $50 weekly
50% SCHB x37
20% vxus x5
10% schg x6
10% avuv x2
10% ibit x4
The Charles Schwab investments I have a decent understanding. It’s a good split between different commodities, maybe. I also realized I can only invest $7000 in a Roth IRA so gonna have to stop one or the other before that amount this year. Idk which to stop or if two is even necessary. At the moment once one hits $3,500 I’ll stop buying.
I don’t have a clue what this Fidelity portfolio is for 😅
**Fidelity Portfolio**
Individual: $100 weekly
75% SPAXX x900
25% SGOV x3
👆What are those and why are they good?
**GS Marcus HYSA**
$150 weekly
W/ $2k+
Is a HYSA necessary even tho I have those Fidelity investments? Are these just about the same thing?
**Cash**
BofA checking
$7k+
I have a feeling I’ll be recommended to put $6k of my cash into one of the investment accounts and to leave the bare minimum for my life in checking. $1000 will do….
I’m sure I’m off to a great start but just want a better understanding of it all that isn’t coming from ChatGPT
Thanks in advance!! 🙏

I am under 60. I have 80% of my portfolio in VTI. My investment in F was done with a small % of my portfolio. It was my speculation dollars. But I'm approaching 60 in the next few years, so I was thinking I should realize these gains now and use them to start building a position in a dividend stock that is defensive in nature. I suppose I could put all of it into a broad based index like SCHB, but I was thinking about 70/30 into SCHD and SCHG.

SCHG, like other growth funds, is down over the last three months, and trailing value funds over the last six months. US is trailing international as well. At this point I would not be choosing to emphasize growth, let alone do US growth exclusively. [Historically value has outperformed growth](https://www.americancentury.com/institutional-investors/insights/why-value-and-why-now/), but we don't really know what will happen in the future. Because we don't know, a solid blend fund is probably your safest way to make sure you get respectable returns. Instead of SCHG, I would go with SCHX (large cap blend) or SCHB (broad US market) and add 20-25% FNDF, SCHF, or VYMI to get some international exposure as well.

Talk to a professionally licensed advisor from Charles Schwab.
Some good ETFs to mention:
\- SCHB for Total USA stock market exposure.
\- SCHD for dividend growth exposure.
\- SCHZ for USA bonds. This is an excellent ETF to treat as an anchor for stability.

For a Schwab account you can use SPYM ($80/share) or SCHX or SCHB ($25/share), or the easiest is to use the SWPPX mutual fund which allows fractional shares and automated investmenting.

Where are you investing? If you are at Vanguard or Fidelity, you can buy partial shares. If you are at Schwab, you can buy either cheap Schwab ETFs or partial mutual fund shares.
I would actually start with a broad US market fund rather than just the top 500 companies. Diversity is good for long lasting resilience in your portfolio.
If at Fidelity or Vanguard --> VTI
If at Schwab --> SCHB or SWTSX
If you really do just want the top 500 largest companies, buy VOO at Fidelity or Vanguard, or SCHX or SWPPX at Schwab.

>ive been thinking like 50% s and p 500
>and ... small cap
Why not combined those 2 into a single US total market style fund? VTI, ITOT, SCHB are 3 examples (or since Schwab doesn't offer fractional ETF trading, use the mutual fund SWTSX). They'll fully contain the S&P 500 as a large part of their weight (I believe currently 80%+) but also have some weight to the extended market.
>or international?
Going global can be a very good idea, as single country risk is uncompensated risk and different countries over and under perform at different times.
>and what about the other 14k thats not in my roth ira.
Is any of that your emergency fund?

There’s *so* much overlap in VOO, QQQM, SCHG, and VTI. You really only need one to fill that role, something like VTI or SCHB is fine. Instead of VXUS for foreign market exposure, I’d recommend Schwab’s SCHF, which has outperformed VXUS since its inception and has a lower expense ratio.
