From a bit more research, I think I can stick to VTI/VXUS in both, but turn off reinvestment of dividends. With this, if I ever need to TLH, I can sell for up to 3k tax harvest, and then buy SCHB or SCHF temporarily with that money (or even, just hold it). Can then sell and rebuy VTI/VXUS when I see fit.

Price per share doesn’t matter. The only cost you need to care about is expense ratio.
VTI and SCHB both have 0.03% expense ratios and they are essentially interchangeable. VTI’s price is about 13x higher, but this doesn’t matter. There is no practical difference between 1 share of VTI or about 13 shares of SCHB.

Vanguard funds are the default recommendation in this sub for historical reasons (Jack Bogle was the founder of Vanguard and both were instrumental in popularizing low cost index investing.
However, at this point the fund names function mostly as a shorthand. Very few people would argue you need VTSAX or VTI specifically; any similar low cost, total US equity market fund would do equally well whether SCHB, FSKAX, or FZROX.
Those who are specific Vanguard partisans will generally point to the ownership structure (investors own the funds and the funds own the brokerage) as the key point as it provides some degree of insurance that the brokerage will have reasonably aligned incentives with its investors. (Schwab and Fidelity both have some scummy practices)

There's no true equivalent, because each institution does things slightly differently. Total world funds are somewhat rare, often "International" just means "Developed", and frequently small caps are left out of international funds. Schwab does all of these.
That said, SCHB/SWTSX for US and SCHF/SWISX for international (developed large/mid cap) is the closest two-fund match. For a closer portfolio match, you'd add smaller amounts of SCHE/SFENX (emerging large/mid cap) and SCHC/SFILX (developed small cap).
Or you can just buy Vanguard ETFs with Schwab as your broker. Easy peasy.

Yes, this is a Schwab mutual fund, so you can definitely buy it at Schwab. Keep in mind, you need earned income to contribute to a Roth IRA. If you want broader diversification, consider SWTSX or SCHB.

Great choice. Another to consider id SWTSX (or SCHB if you want an ETF) it’s SWPPX but with exposure to mid and small cap stocks as well. So more diversified.

Anytime there someone asking where to invest these two ETF's are the first options many direct to invest. I understand that there are some variables here and there but generally these two are at the top of the list when being recommended. There not bad ETF's at all, they have a low-expense ration, good 10 Year returns(more than 12%), and diversified holdings, but often times there are mutual funds and ETF's that are cheaper in terms of share per price, have relatively the same or better performance over a 10 year period, fewer holdings but still great holdings in general.

Just for reference i have no Vangard ETF's at all. I have SCHB, SPYG, SPYV(this one been perfoming the worst), SPDW(ex.US), and SOXL for some fun in the short term. They have have a decent 10 year return besides SOXL which is leverage, and there current share price is not through the roof(Because some have gotten stock split, but even then there cheaper and have about the same performance of some more popular ETF's), and most are 0.03-0.04 in expense ration.
Just curious.

I do the same except I use VT instead of SCHB to give me some international

Yep, you'll do good with that set up. I took a long time to settle on what to do. My current core ETFs are SCHB, SCHG, and SCHD. I have a few smaller positions outside of those that I play with. But these three get my automatic DCA each paycheck.

The union deal just killed the long term outlook. I would take the dividends and invest in SCHB
I would then consider my position as time ticks along. They have cut back routes and most of the rural route drivers are only running two days a week.
Part timers that have been waiting for full time positions are screwed. Mid management has to take a hack to get any chance of slimming down the overhead.
This deal will look fine for a couple years the prices and lay offs will cover it for a while but rest assured you don’t get pensions like that for free someone will have to pay the piper. But hey if you like it ride it, I know management is still buying stocks but middle and regular full time guys have stopped.

(One Example)
SCHB 30-50% U.S. Total Market (or SCHX/SCHA/SCHM)\
SCHG 15-30% Growth\
SCHF 10-15% Europe/Japan/Canada/Australia+\
SCHE 5-10% China/India/Brazil+\
(Maybe) IBIT 5% Bitcoin ETF
ETFs vs Mutual Funds
ETFs
- trade during market hours (you see transactions right away)
- generally have lower expense ratios (management fees)
Mutual Funds
- trade once a day after market hours (you don’t see transactions till next day)
- generally have higher expense ratios
- automatic investment/withdrawals are available
- dollar amount investing is available (e.g. you can buy SWTSX for $100 even SWTSX is $104. You cannot buy 4 shares of SCHB with $100 if SCHB is $25.01)
I personally like ETFs but mutual funds make sense to many people.

Why not just use the dividends to fund a SCHB position, as well as any other contributions you make to it

If you think SCHB, SCHF and SCHE are worth buying today (at their current prices) then it would be illogical to stop buying them because the price drops.

I'm 34. It will be in regular brokerage, so I'll be taxed on the dividends. Taxes aren't the end of the world, but I don't know if I should sell and move into my long term play of $SCHB for potentially greater total return.

Why not keep it and use the 10k dividends to buy SCHB? Seems like a win win here.

Keep inherited $UPS or sell and buy into $SCHB?

I have a taxable brokerage account with a long-term retirement horizon. Core portfolio is:
• 70% SCHB (US)
• 20% SCHF (Developed international)
• 10% SCHE (Emerging markets)
I’m looking to add a “booster” ETF that I’d buy only during bear markets and hold long term (20+ years). Ideally something with higher volatility and return potential.
What ETF would you recommend for this kind of strategy? Is it a good one?

SCHB as the main one because it performs similar to VTI and if i dont have $800 usd i can cut some shares and still invest
SCHG because it is tech heavy so if tech booms in the future i have a slice of that cake
SPMO because i like the idea behind it
VXUS for international exposure
I plan on investing $800 a month majority in SCHB and SCHG with the rest going 1 SPMO 1 VXUS
Any advice would be great thanks.

Here's a starting point for tax loss harvesting, you can likely find similar articles from other brokerages: https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/personal-finance/tax-loss-harvesting
The wash sales section explains why to use different funds between the accounts.
An easy way to avoid them (at least for the VTI/VXUS roles) would be change those in the IRA to VT (2 letters). Then in taxable, SCHB and/or ITOT would be the VTI TLH partner (or even go with S&P 500 or SCHX), IXUS or VEU for the VXUS role.

And if OP wants to completely avoid that issue, they could very easily do VTI+VXUS in one account and ITOT+IXUS (or SCHB+VEU or SPTM+SPDW+SPEM or SCHX+SCHF+SCHE or any number of combinations of these funds) in the other.
