# << OpenAI’s Head of Data Centers Has Left the Company
*Chris Malone joins a string of recent high-level executive departures as the AI giant heads toward an IPO and ramps up its spending on computing power*
A key executive overseeing [OpenAI](https://www.wsj.com/topics/subject/openai)’s data-center build-out, Chris Malone, left the company last week, according to people familiar with the matter, joining a wave of leadership departures ahead of a planned public offering.
Malone joined OpenAI as head of data centers in March 2025, shortly after the company announced Stargate, an ambitious effort with [Oracle](https://www.wsj.com/market-data/quotes/ORCL) and [SoftBank](https://www.wsj.com/market-data/quotes/JP/XTKS/9984) to build [data centers](https://www.wsj.com/topics/industry/data-centers) to meet its rapidly growing computing needs. >>

>Does anyone know what sits behind that 44%? One end customer, or several projects going through the same financing partner?
The big 2 are likely ORCL and BAM in no particular order; and possibly EQIX could be the 21%.

For those who don't work in the tech industry, the hype for cutting edge models is already completely dead. We got a taste of what it was capable of with Fable, but it turns out it's mostly just good at making stuff that already exists like Minecraft and Tinder clones. It was kinda neat for the 2 weeks it was freely available on plans, but ultimately none of these businesses are willing to pay ludicris token prices just to use a slightly better model. Companies have already switched back to subscription models, they'd be stupid not to, it's free compute. Even if they were to remove subscriptions entirely, it wouldn't help as people can just switch to open source models instead. It's a no win situation for Anthropic and OpenAI.
This means that the only AI sector that was going for mass compute, LLMs, will definitely not be able to ever pay back all that compute they spent. That's 2.5 trillion down the drain.
This is where you come in 🏳‍🌈🐻's. Private equity, Softbank, Amazon, Microsoft have to hold this massive bag of debt they spent on these worthless models and they want you to buy them from them. Expect the market to trade sideways or slightly down until this crashes, they are trying to slowly offload shares without crashing the market. Their goal is to hold out until

Positions:
Late 2027 SNDK, NVDA, PLTR, TQQQ, and ORCL puts.
Other good options are NBIS, MU, and CRWV

i am 55F, divorced, grown independent children, and currently not working but will probably take a part time job in NJ at some point and work for 5-10 years. My health is ok and i have a no mortgage. A few years ago, I inherited the majority of this from my parents across 29 different accounts, 4 different brokerages, some in IRA and some in taxable accounts. It's now in 15 different accounts with a mix of inherited iras(traditional and roth), brokerages and my own 401k conversions/savings/etc. there is a lot of duplication of asset sectors . i have 8 more years of drawing down inherited iras which will be 40% of these assets. I NEED TO neaten this up and diversify/move some into cash/bonds/other sectors. current ratio at 53:24:21 in mutual funds: stocks: etfs. it is overly heavy on tech 70%: 8% communications: 6% consumers. I have Trowe, Janus, American Century and Vanguard accounts. the Trowe and Janus are in 100% mutual funds . I'm not familliar with mutual funds and everytime I look at it, i feel overwhelmed. I have a reasonable grasp of tech stocks as i used to work in semiconductors. Can anyone help me pare down the number of funds in Janus/ Trowe so it's simpler? and then i can focus on diversifying. i read Kiplinger magazine and try to understand what i can; my experience with professional money managers is they have never outperformed S and P by a big margin. any opinions out there about trowe and janus mutual funds or why my parents chose these funds when they obviously knew about vanguard's lower expense ETFs? thanks for reading.
