The costs are quite steep. But once you’ve been at it for a while, the trading losses (or gains) far outweigh the cost of the tools. I trade the NQ futures via IBKR, which charges standard trading fees. The data is free initially, but I quickly realized you can't record all the live data needed for backtesting. So, unfortunately, I have to spend an extra $10 a month with MarketTick for Level 1 data. But as I said, compared to the profit or loss, that’s nothing at all...

Been trading futures (ES/NQ) for a while now and got tired of tracking everything in a messy spreadsheet. Looked into the journal apps out there and most of them charge $20-30+/month for stuff that honestly didn't feel like it needed to cost anything. So I just built my own.
It's called TradeStack. Completely free, no paywall. You can import your trades straight from a CSV (works with Tradovate, TradingView, NinjaTrader, Rithmic, TradeStation, Tastytrade, Webull, IBKR) and it auto-detects the format so you don't have to mess with columns. Tracks win rate, expectancy, R-multiples, calendar view, emotional state per trade, all that.
Built it for my own eval tracking, but figured if I found it useful, other people dealing with the same spreadsheet pain (or sick of paying for a journal) might too. Happy to take feedback or feature requests, still actively building it.

Are you using IBKR as your main broker for stocks and options or also for your automated system on ES/NQ? I have read you mentioned also webull in other comments.

Not speaking for gold specifically, but I backtested on NQ once that if the market dips (small) at close it will gap up, if it rises at close it will gap down, on a basis of trend (essentially the same as a falling/rising wedge where it bounces off the support/resistance). Although with inside news this can do the opposite like Friday’s close last week; there was a huge spike at 4:59pm.
To really answer your question you can watch Bitcoin futures as they trade 24/7 now as of the last couple weeks, you’ll definitely see market reaction in the price if major news breaks over the weekend. I couldn’t tell you if it makes a good hedge or not at this point, dollar for dollar, as I think it’s safe to assume the price will swing pretty far near 6pm on Sundays as liquidity swings back to other futures/forex markets.

I have specialized trading mostly vwap based strategies for the past few years which I have developed and optimized. It's really great tool. Remember to use only market data which has meaningful institutional volume example NQ, ES, GC instead of MNQ, MES or CFD's.

Just adding that ADX is indeed SUPER helpful for whether or not I should put on a trade. Its a simple little indicator that has saved me many potential losses.
I trade NQ. If ADX reads blow 18, I know my setup has a higher chance of chopping or failing, so I sit on my hands instead,

depends on what the strategy is trend win 40-50% RR 1:2 or higher, mean reversion win 45 - 60% RR 1:1.5 to 1:2. with ES my slippage is fairly consistent but with NQ harder to model.

Trade NQ then buy SL level puts/calls to hedge if your NQ move moves against you
OTM 0DTE are a very cheap insurance

Honestly hard to answer in raw points, since NQ in that first hour can swing 20 just breathing. What helped me way more than picking a number was going back through every trade that stopped me out and tagging which ones got hit and then ran my way anyway. A bunch of those, and the stop was too tight or your entry was a touch early on the reverse. None of them, and the stop's fine, the read was just off. You already feel the pattern from those live losses, so go pull that history and let it actually tell you which one it is.
