Not a bad idea from GME perspective but I’m not seeing much reason for Sony to agree to it—the whole point of digital for them is cutting out a middle man like this to keep more profit.
Then again, Sony is going to learn hard lessons if people don’t bother buying PlayStations anymore and just pivot to PC gaming or other consoles because who the fuck is going to buy a specific piece of hardware for $1000 just to access like 10 exclusive games that you don’t even actually own?
I wonder how many games moving further toward always online SAAS models affects this landscape too.
A lot of your COD / MADDEN / and nothing else type gamers will buy their game once and then pay for season passes and other MTX forever… you might force them to upgrade their console once every 7-10 years I guess if you end legacy support for their game but they won’t be showing up every 3-4 months for midnight releases of the next installment of the handful of blockbuster AAA balls or bullets games they play like the did at GameStop’s peak
