In a situation like this, it is important to note that when placing a market order, you will receive the next available price, which may be higher or lower than the last trade price. As a result, our system seeks to prevent clients from placing themselves into margin calls. Additionally, because you have the Margin Debt Protection (MDP) enabled, this is a tool that takes a conservative approach to prevent borrowing on margin and incurring debt.
A resource that you may find helpful is the "Hypothetical Transaction Tool" on our Margin Calculator. This tool will allow you to see how a trade might affect your account and buying power. The margin calculator will also take RBR into consideration for you. You can access the margin calculator by following these steps on Fidelity.com after logging in:
1. Click "Accounts & Trade," then select "Account Positions"
2. Next, select the "Balances" tab
3. Under "Margin" click on "Calculator"
Additionally, on your balances page, you can view the "Available to trade without margin impact" balance for an accurate total, as you have MDP enabled.
We are happy to help if anything else comes up!
