Uhhh. Quite a bit. ING was found to have been auctioning off about 500m of its Debt. Almost all of it was stargate, the official bids go public Nov 19 as no private takers.

Agree that credit is the bigger problem here. Frankly, it's already showing. Citrini wrote last week that banks are stuck holding $15 billion of funded bridge loans to an Anthropic-backed project the Texas moratorium halted, and that lending without a hyperscaler behind it has stopped. We're hunting down details on a big loan Morgan Stanley is trying to get off their books too. Stay tuned...
Barclays reads the Texas flip as making the buildout pricier and a little slower, but they don't expect it to stop. Letting permitted projects finish would help the borrowers, though those bridge loans still need a buyer.
We're watching ING's $500m data center loan sale (bids due November 19). This is the next real price.

Was genau erwartest du jetzt als Antworten?

I specifically separated the situation of a margin call vs internal controls.
I do recognize that sudden bursts of volatility can cause an unexpected need for deleveraging, possibly at prices below where your limits were supposed to trigger, and some strategies might get caught behind the curve if they don't move fast enough. But the fact that SOME strategies might get caught with their pants down, doesn't mean there's no further downside. There could very much still be a case for further downside.
To put this more simply, I wouldn't expect that just because SOME funds hit their internal controls means the selling is truly over. Nor would I expect that just because SOME funds might have gotten margin-called, that the selling is truly over.
There is currently a MASSIVE lack of liquidity in the bond market, at least when it comes to data center debt, and all the other projects that need funding (grid enhancements, some reshoring, etc etc etc) The money needs to come from somewhere.
Whoever bought this week might think they're geniuses because they bought at big-dip prices. But they might also be skittish and unload their bets after a few percentage point move up.
The real question is not if someone got margin-called or hit their limits. The real question is whether their brokers and the other prime brokers are getting stuck holding a bag of shares they need to liquidate, how long they'll tolerate holding this bag, how long they'll take to drip it out to market, and whether anyone else is actually sitting on the sidelines with boatloads of cash ready to buy these assets at current prices.
Maybe those waiting on the sidelines aren't particularly excited about these prices yet, and the MMs and prime brokers are stuck holding stuff they can't get rid of, the same way some big banks got stuck holding datacenter debt, like ING, which was reportedly selling a $500m basket of data center debt they couldn't offload onto the market in an orderly fashion.
ING underwrote the datacenter debt they're dumping on the market right now. They couldn't pass it off to others. All bids disappeared. Underwriters generally don't expect to have to hold the entire bag. ING did have to.
Margin calls are the same thing. When a prime broker margin-calls their client, the prime broker has to liquidate that position. They often move quickly to do so, but sometimes not quickly enough. Sometimes they're left holding a bag, and hope that buyers come back in and they can offload it at slightly better pricing. But when push comes to shove, they will just go liquidate it. You an see an example of this by reading the Archegos capital report from Credit Suisse. There, you'll see exactly how prime brokers try to manage a massive liquidation, and it is a fascinating insight into how this stuff goes down.
If the prime brokers are holding the bag, they won't hold it for long. They'll be attempting to engineer a small bounce, to sell into buying pressure, but they won't wait very long, especially not if other prime brokers are in a similar position and have an itchy trigger trigger. If the buyers don't materialize SOON, they'll all dump what they just margin-called, and there will be another leg down, until we hit prices where buyers and cash on the sides actually come in ready to buy in size.
While the 6% down-day definitely indicated a disorderly market, it in now way indicates that the selling is over.

Bitte was?
Ganz schön dreist bei einem Tagesgeldkonto.

Progressive lawmakers are pushing for a national moratorium on new data center builds after the Democratic midterm sweep. ING is already trying to sell about $500 million in data center loans, including debt tied to a New Mexico Stargate site, which shows the credit side is moving before any law passes.
Data centers are the physical foundation of every AI earnings story from the past 2 years. If new construction gets legally blocked, hyperscalers and chip companies lose the clearest path to turning their capital spending into future revenue, and the growth numbers that justify current valuations start looking thin.
Meta said political opposition to data centers could force it to pull back on AI investment. Does that make hyperscaler capex guidance the number to watch next earnings season, or does ING finding buyers for that loan portfolio matter more first?
