There are huge gaps in the solana read layer, the biggest is around backfill, though Anza's jetstreamer and Horizon project will fix this for good imo

Horizon just completed it's first epoch and was able to compress \~ 1TB of transactions and \~7 TB of account updates (aka, the full data for epoch 950) down to \~203 GB, and it's fully seekable in the usual jetstreamer way. This is 1/5th the size of Old Faithful's epoch CAR files, and it includes full transaction data with status meta, and account updates. They are planning to host it in a publicly accessible, unlimited bandwidth cloudflare R2 bucket

Well then that's where I was. I've never once created a post, only ever commented on buy/sell threads and almost always would get shat upon.
Someone would post that they wanted to trade goldbacks for silver.
I'd offer up some silver.
They'd want me to price my silver at silver spot, while offering to pay with their GBs at market price.
Over the last several years I have purchased, traded, and acquired about 3,000 GB. It was fun at first but then I realized that people who collect them tend to be quite rude so I haven't added a single one to the stack in 2026.

> Once the networks were built, we had all the networking we needed for the internet age.
This is not true... We didn't have GB Internet in 2000, the distributed data servers that Netflix and other streaming services use to serve media, cell phone data networks, etc.
> insatiable demand for compute right now
Key words **right now**. There's a lot of hype around AI making workers more productive a.k.a. firing half your workforce, but we're already seeing some firms reject AI in favor of rehiring humans because the cost:results of AI isn't good enough.
We're in a race to see if AI performance can rise faster than price. If price wins, the whole thing implodes. And keep in mind it's only getting more expensive to build compute as communities reject the hidden/taxpayer subsidized costs of data centers. I'm not convinced we've seen the true costs yet.

This bit is highly important. Goldbacks will only retain their premium until the founders that are scamming everyone cash out and go home. It is almost a near certainty that the company ends its sales and thus all its propaganda efforts will also end. within a few years GB premium will go from +90% to prob -50%. Everything else you said is variations of the 'bla bla bla' the sales reps at GB are pushing. GB only work now because the company is a mass marketing organization. Did OP really try to justify long term worth because they have been around a whole 7 years?
I cant take this shit anymore, stop trying to justify a bad product. even your apology reads likes a love letter to GB. gtfo.
Anyone that wants to reply to defend GB as more than a GB, feel free to join my block list.
>> While Goldbacks have retained their premium for 7 years, there is no guarantee that they always will.

"
Low Commissions: Our commissions start
1 from just £3/€3 per trade for the UK and most European stocks, while US stocks start from just USD 0.005 per share. For mutual funds, commissions range from nil to £4.95 (for GB funds). We ask for EUR 4.95 for EUR-denominated funds or the equivalent conversion in GBP."
£3 a trade means you're probbaly only going to use that for US stocks and youd need to check what each individual fee is on US stocks as it starts from 0.005 theres also a commision for larger orders.
"
For larger trades (those over £6000 / €6000) the cost is 0.05% of trade value."

"Hello, person that wasn't previously interested in Goldbacks before: could I interest you in a *now defunct* currency that has an *even higher* premium than it did when you could exchange it for real money?"
I assure you, if GB inc goes under, demand does not increase. It tanks. This isn't the first alt currency.

I mean, by that logic, anyone who is sponsored by a company producing a product is part of a pyramid scheme. You're just describing affiliate programs, which basically every modern business uses.
Bottom line: Making something at low cost and sucking up premium plus value is how functionally every business works, wholesale or not.
I think the larger issue with GBs is that there isn't any backing to their exchange rate, except that this is what GB, Inc. says it is.
**For a "currency" purporting to be backed by real gold, they're sure doing a lot of fiat-oriented stuff in their hypothetical gold economy.**

I have had issues trying to spend them. I was told by one of your distributors that they accepted them for payment if I bought bullion from them, I did that, I drove to another damned state, however when I pulled them out to pay, instead of pulling up the calculator to see how many GB was needed for my purchase they said they had to buy them from me. They bought them from me at $7.60 per GB, rate that days was $8.30. He then charged me a premium for the silver, I should have walked out, but I had just driven 3 hours. I have sold all mine now if this is the way your own distributors act.
