Sidestepping the question a bit, are you sure the traditional 401k is the best bet for you? If you are a high earner and have access to a 401k, your contributions won't be tax deductible. Most people would either do a Roth IRA (via the backdoor) or just a taxable brokerage.
With respect to your fund choices, I agree with keeping it simple. I would do one total US market fund, one total international fund, and either a growth fund or a value fund. Something like:
55% FZROX
25% VYMI, FNDF, or DFAX
20% Growth or value -
Growth: GARP, VOOG, VUG, or SCHG
Value: AVLV, DFLV, FVAL, or FNDX
Personally I am a more of a value person than a growth person but I get the appeal of growth.
