If you are sticking with the US market, you really can't get more diverse than just picking ITOT, VTI, or SCHB, unless maybe you add a microcap fund or a different asset class (bitcoin, gold, bonds).
So, you could add an international ETF such as DFIV, FIVA, IVLU, or VYMI. That would certainly bring diversity.
You could also decide there is a certain sector of the market, or a certain class of company, that you want extra emphasis on. This is less diversity, not more, but if are really confident in, say, large US companies in general, you could add a holding like SPYM, SCHX, or VV. Or if you really want extra emphasis on small companies, FESM, FFSG, or SMLF. Perhaps you want to make an extra bet on large companies with strong growth characteristics: look at GARP, VONG, ONEQ, or VOOG. Or you are more attracted to large companies with value characteristics: look at FDRR, EPS, FVAL, ILCV, or VTV. Maybe there is a sector of the economy you think has great long term prospects. If that sector is tech, look at VGT or FSEC. Industrials? FIDU. Utilities? FUTY. You have all sorts of options, just take some time to learn about what they represent and make a thoughtful choice that you have real conviction in, not just going with a bunch of names that randos on social media have suggested :)

Posting this as a heads‑up for others, because the details of my situation aren’t a big deal — but the *implications* could be serious for someone else.
I recently gave my advisor a set of instructions that needed to be done in a specific order:
1. Move **2200 shares of FSEC in‑kind** from managed account *1234* to my self‑directed account *1122*.
2. After that, move **$100,000 cash** from *1234* to *1122*.
3. Then liquidate the remaining assets in *1234* and split the proceeds between my other two managed accounts.
I also explicitly warned that doing the cash transfer first could cause problems.
The cash transfer was initiated before the in‑kind share transfer. Because there wasn’t enough settled cash available, the system automatically sold FSEC to cover the request. That left fewer shares available for the in‑kind transfer.
**In my case, the impact was minor** — I ended up with 1,988 shares instead of 2,200, and that’s close enough for my allocation. I’m not concerned about the outcome of this specific transaction.
**What concerns me is the process.**
If a simple reordering of steps can trigger an unintended sale, that has much bigger implications for clients dealing with:
* tax‑sensitive lots
* wash‑sale timing
* concentrated positions
* transfers tied to legal or settlement deadlines
* low‑basis holdings
* or anything where selling the wrong asset could be costly
This seems like an area where additional training or clearer internal guidance might help prevent avoidable issues.
I'm sharing this so others know to serialize multi‑step instructions themselves, and so Fidelity is aware that this type of sequencing error can have real consequences.
