Country specific ETFs are a good way to target specific companies not easy for a US investor to access or countries having a unique, shorter-term renaissance for one reason or another. EWN is 25% ASML, which is easy to invest in, but aside from NBIS at 4%, most of the rest are not. If you think the other 71% have better prospects than the rest of the world, then certainly no harm in having some exposure. Obviously you also need to believe ASML has better than average prospects too.
However, EWN is up about 40% the past year, while ASML is up 147% and NBIS is up 245%. (ASM is up 100%). I haven't researched how the Europe-listed stocks have done, but it seems these three stocks account for all the gain for the past year.

I‘m thinking of putting an allocation in EWN - iShares Netherlands ETF. I notice it has outperformed VEU in the past 3 years, up 39% in a year. I’m also interested in maybe an emerging markets and a Japanese markets ETF. This would just be a 10% allocation or so, maybe 15-20% in emerging markets. timeframe is 10-15 years holding. Interested in any thoughts or if anyone has any regional ETFs and their reasons for buying them, if they were happy with them?
