hey there! Helped a few quanty peeps move out as a recruiter.
As others suggested, becoming a SWE/DS is more of a possible for a QR than QT.
If you want to remain in trading, few paths I have seen working out for QTs though very few are becoming risk associates/risk managers or trading ops specialist for trading desks; or moving into the business management side (become a BD/ops person).
If you wanna move to the sell side then could become an execution trader too but I don’t think work life will be too different from what you’re trying to get away from.

Before you jump ship entirely, worth knowing the stress varies a ton by seat. A slow systematic book at an asset manager or a bank flow desk is a different life than a fast prop seat, same skillset, way fewer hours. That's the easiest "exit" because you're not resetting your comp or seniority. If you do want out of trading, don't apply as junior swe, that's underselling badly. Quant dev / research infra roles take trader-adjacent people all the time and you'd come in mid/senior, and risk and model validation at banks are genuinely calmer and pay fine. DS at a tech company works too but the comp drop is real and the work is often less interesting than you'd hope.

Yes DS. I’M SURE YOU WOULD BE RUNNING A MULTI TRILLION DOLLAR ORGANIZATION AT LEAST THREE TIMES BETTER, AM I RIGHT?

It won't, because the player base will be smaller than the PS5's—and consequently smaller than the Switch's. You're overestimating how much GTA boosts the player base; the PS3 and PS4 didn't reach Nintendo DS numbers, and the PS5 won't reach the Switch's numbers, even with GTA VI.

I know you’re joking but I do have 2 pure math preprints from the last month both from 5.6 Sol Pro in my PhD research area ready to go, just waiting to do some final proof reading over the next few weekends.
Also to be honest I don’t get the direction of this joke, is my description too much for DS or too little? These are literally all tasks I’ve done over the last year.

At a faang, DS is not as respected or well paid as SWE. Try to go for research related titles instead
