Here's my approach: I built a quantitative stock screener for the Brazilian market (my local market). The screener pulls data from multiple Brazilian market sources. Price and historical trading data come from B3/COTAHIST files, fundamental data comes from CVM financial filings (ITR/DFP), and some supplementary metrics like P/L ratio and cash distributions come from Status Invest.

It ranks IBOV and small cap stocks based on relative strength versus their benchmark index, using total return data. The idea is to identify which stocks are leading or lagging the market for trading purposes. It also applies a few lightweight fundamental and liquidity filters to improve the quality of the ranking.
After getting the results I go to the individual issues (top/bottom 15-20) and see which fit my trading system for longing/shorting. You should be able to replicate it for any market you may wish to trade. Works well for me, I also use it for Swing/Position trading.
