this is more trouble than its worth.
- investing in the stocks from companies in Nation X does not imply those companies support the actions of Nation X, if that's what you're thinking.
- most major companies are interconnected globally. it's impossible to fully isolate them, as if you were asking the chef to hold the onions at a restaurant. finance and investing doesn't work that way. Honda is a Japanse companies, but has factories in about a dozen nations both developed and emerging. so if you're holding Honda stock in a Japan ETF, you're also indirectly supporting the economies of Thailand, Pakistan and the USA due to Honda facilities in those nations. Thailand is oppressing
- ditto for major bank/finance stocks. Barclays is a major UK bank, and State Bank of India is a player in India, but they both have operations in Israel. so you're indirectly supporting the Israeli economy by holding an India or UK etf.
- if you insisted, an easier alternative might be to pick some of the better actively managed ETFs. the fees would be higher, but this could allow for easier way to eliminate certain nations. for example, CGXU has about 75 holdings DINT has only 29 stocks. DINT has major Chinese holdings, so you're at risk of supporting Chinese genocide against Uyghurs.
