Do you think VTV would be a good replacement for AVUV or AVLV? Those two have a higher volatility. Also, there would be overlap between VTV and VTI, which doesnt seem like a problem.

Adding VGT and SPMO will reduce diversification because you will be overweighting the tech companies that are already in VTI. AVLV will overweight value companies already in VTI. This extra complication may not payoff in the long run and may result in a lower Sharpe ratio. If you believe in factor tilting, there are single funds that will do this for you. More funds does not mean better, it’s just a natural psychological belief many of us have early in our investing knowledge journey.

What’s funny is AVLV is probably the best fund mentioned.

If your goal is diversification, I'd probably swap AVLV for international before adding another factor sleeve. Right now you already have broad US, momentum, and growth, which is still a pretty US-heavy bet. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd be honest that it is more a tilted US equity portfolio than a fully diversified one.

Not sure what purpose AVLV is serving in this, but the rest sounds okay.

Thanks for everyone for the advice, i’m gonna go with 40% VTI , 30% SPMO , 20% VGT and 10% AVLV (if you guys think i should change it to international lmk). Again im all ears and want to hear everyone’s opinion. Appreciate everyone’s time

You should look into AVGV, an avantis ticker that’s a ‘fund of funds’ handling global value. Has roughly similar percentages to your AVLV and AVUV and AVDV AVEM… That’s what I use at least.

AVLV is super underrated etf. Vanguard etfs are turning obsolete.

Minimizing ETF overlap prevents accidental over-concentration in the same mega cap stocks across multiple funds. It provides true sector and factor diversification, ensuring your holdings don't all crash together when a single sector pulls back.
To balance out, choose a broad market fund that would minimize the overlap like SCHB or VTI.
Alternatively, you can choose value and quality factor tilts to minimize tech related volatility. For eg AVLV, VTV (2-3% overlap)
If you prefer to explicitly exclude tech while holding major non-tech sector leaders VFH and VHT 0% overlap with VGT.

it all honesty, is it better to mainly focus on VGT or have it on the side with focusing something like VOO? it wouldn’t hurt to add something else like you states like AVLV

Oddly enough, Bogle actually liked the 'value' and 'growth' funds. He appreciated the idea that at different points in a persons life, their priorities of what they needed the investments for would change. Youth favors growth, age favors value.
And re-balancing via future contribution is a good strategy. That means you don't need to lose in the short-term to taxes and means you can get further gains from your current position if fears of concentration/valuation end up proving false.
VTV is good. AVLV and AVUV are good. (in my opinion anyway)

International diversification helps. However, if you're interested in just US, I strongly recommend AVLV from Avantis:
- Outperformance: Has beaten VOO by over 2% per year since inception (almost 5 years now)
- Factor tilts: value fund but uses multiple measures of value, in addition to considering profitability and momentum, so you're not just accumulating debt-ridden, low-growth, falling knives compared to a passive option like VTV
- Market beta: Unlike VTV, it actually has a beta comparable to (but slightly lower than). Compared to the S&P 500, better returns, similar volatility, lower draw downs.
- Diversification: None of the holdings have a market cap exceeding about 3% (AAPL being the highest)
- (Almost) no junk: Profitless companies and overhyped speculative crap are excluded by their filters. The closest thing to fitting these criteria is CRWV (0.37%) and OPEN (0.03%), but it doesn't have any unprofitable or barely profitable megacaps with triple digit P/Es dragging down your performance, which is especially pertinent at a time of increased IPO activity with index fund rule changes.
- Tax efficiency: 100% qualified dividends going back to inception with low turnover ratios
- Reasonable expense ratio: 15 bps is higher than a passive fund, but it's as cheap as it gets otherwise. IMO, the tax efficiencies already make up for it, let alone the factor tilting and the outperformance.

I found out a 25% drop in my tech ETFs was enough to pull the plug. I reorganized into AVUV/AVLV/RPV. Might add FTEC as a broader solution after a while.

Look at something like DFAC or AVUS or AVLV if you want some diversification

Just do what your risk tolerance is comfortable with. You're figured out your core allocation and how much international you want to have. At that point it just comes down to how far away from the core you want to get. I only have about 5% in momentum (spmo/fmtm) and instead have 30% in AVUV, 10% in AVLV, and 20% core (VOO) because I have conviction in the academic literature but feel more comfortable with "profitable companies at reasonable prices" vs momentum.
Honestly nobody knows what's going to be the returns in 20 years so just stick with a plan.

I like AVLV. Avantis large cap value. Has tech, but it shifts the tech weighting more towards companies that produce a lot of cash (think apple) rather than those at higher multiples (think tesla). Has a much higher weighting in financials and industrials than most broad-US ETFs these days.
Gets you some tech, but definitely shifts closer to companies like waste management than it does for sandisk or whatever.

From the looks of it, you're basing your allocation off of momentum, size, value, and profitability. I have something similar allocated but I'm a little less allocated towards momentum since I'm not the biggest fan of backward looking factors, instead I added a sleeve of AVLV. As long as you're okay with tracking errors and mean reversions and have decades long time horizon, you're good.

Apple is actually in a lot of value stock ETFs and funds nowadays, including AVLV and FNDX (the latter is value tilted, not explicitly value, but has AAPL in its latter holdings).
Its traditional ratios are fucked up because of tons of stock buybacks, so it avoids traditional value screens, but its earnings are so absurd that alternative value screens pick it up.
