If they made that every single quarter it would be considered average for a company with a $10 billion market cap.  The average operating income
is typically around 5% of market cap yearly.  Value stocks tend to be more at 7-10% annually, which would be 1 billion yearly for GameStop.
That of course, is not normal for an alleged growth company that does not give out dividends.  It’s especially not that great given the recent boom in Pokémon cards.
But also, you’re doing a typical ape thing of extrapolating from a single quarter of data.  If anything you should be averaging it out over 8 or more quarters or something more reasonable.
It’s just not as good as apes think it is given the current valuation of GameStop.  More importantly, it certainly doesn’t imply future stock growth from here, especially when you factor in the CEOs crazed disregard for the company and personal desires to use it as a tool in anyway whatsoever and saddle it with immense debt
to secure a job he “actually is passionate about”.
Likewise, it’s hard to trust someone like Ryan Cohen or apes assessment of what a good quarter’s operating income is, these are the same people who were swearing up and down that GameStop was an amazing value and once in a lifetime purchase when it was 200 to 300% higher than it is now, who have changed their reasons why GameStop is amazing 20 times at least.  Nobody was talking about operating income
becoming average in three years in the “DEAR PEOPLE OF AL WE ARE SCREAMING AT YOU” thread.
Shockingly, nobody was saying that they bought GameStop because they foresaw that that in several years it would be doing approximately 5% percent operating income annually so I really don’t think that is actually important to anybody who talks about GME on Reddit.
If the numbers are different in three years, you yourself will be in this thread, saying something totally different in three years just as the apes 3 years ago were all talking about how they were going to be over 100% DRS and that’s the reason GameStop is the only stock worth buying in the market.

**Is AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) a good buy after the recent dip?**
I've been looking into ASTS after the recent drop and I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the stock at these levels.
My bull case:
* ASTS has a huge opportunity with direct-to-cell satellite service, allowing normal phones to connect without traditional cell towers.
* The company has partnerships with major telecom companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Vodafone.
* The recent dip could be a good entry point if the company successfully launches more satellites and turns its technology into a profitable business.
* The $1 billion financing could help fund expansion and accelerate its satellite network.
My concerns:
* ASTS is still not profitable and has a lot of execution risk.
* The satellite deployment timeline has been pushed back, which could delay revenue growth.
* Competition from companies like SpaceX Starlink could make it harder to dominate the market.
* Future fundraising could potentially impact shareholders.
Do you think ASTS is a good buy after this dip, or is the current valuation still too high? What are the biggest risks or things I'm missing?

And finally, at someone's suggestion —
# WHAT IS IMPLIED VOLATILITY (IV)? —
(Taken from [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/iv.asp](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/iv.asp) ) —
Dumbed down, IV is a forward-looking metric measuring how likely the market thinks the price is to change between now and when an options contract expires. The higher IV is, the higher premiums on contracts run. The more radically the price of a security swings over a short period of time, the higher IV pumps, driving options prices higher as well.
The longer the price trades relatively flat, the more IV will drop over time.
IV is just one of many variables (called 'greeks') used to price options contracts.
# WHAT IS HISTORICAL VOLATILITY (HV)? —
(Taken from [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/historicalvolatility.asp](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/historicalvolatility.asp) ) —
Dumbed down, I'm not fully sure. Based on what I read, it's a historical metric derived from how the price in the past has moved away from the average price over a selected interval. But the short of it is that it determines how 'risky' the market thinks a stock (or an option I guess) is. The higher the historical volatility over a given period, the more 'risky' they think it is. The lower the HV over a period of time, the 'safer' a security (or option) is.
And if anyone wants to fill in some knowledge gaps or correct where these analyses are wrong, please feel free.
# WHAT IS 'MAX PAIN'? —
In this context, 'max pain' is the price at which the most options (both calls and puts) for a security will expire worthless. For some (or many), it is a long held belief that market manipulators will manipulate the price of a stock toward this number to fuck over people who buy options.
# ONE LAST THOUGHT —
If used to make any decision. which it absolutely should NOT be (obligatory #NFA disclaimer), this information should not be considered on its own, but as one point in a ridiculously complex and convoluted ocean of data points that I'm way too stupid to list out here. Mostly, this information is just to keep people abreast of the movement of one key variable options writers use to fuck us over on a weekly and quarterly basis if we DO choose to play options.

401k should largely be an S&P500 fund or similar, with some small cap funds thrown in. Make sure it’s mostly equity.
Does your husband get a pension with his job? Many police officers do and that will greatly impact how / when you need to save.
MAKE SURE he is contributing to his 401k, AT THE VERY LEAST he should be contributing whatever amount they match. Thats 100% free money. You’re never going to do better than that, so take it.
Rather than a “regular” savings account put money into a “high yield” savings account. You should be getting 3-4% minimum these days.
Best of luck!

Don’t forget a shit ton of new stock and also fixed income alternatives hitting the market ALL AT ONCE.
GOOGL had a secondary issuance, SPCX came public, Cerebras, SK Hynix. That is a ton of supply hitting very close together. Mostly high quality stuff. Anthropic, Open AI on deck.
This was always gonna be challenging to absorb this new supply.

AT&T Long Lines is a good primer on how those microwave relay systems work. Basically you need line of sight between microwave stations 20-40 miles apart, and both a transmitter and receiver facing each direction along the chain of stations.
The crazy thing is that microwave transmissions can be faster than fiberoptic, depending on the scenario. New York and Chicago are a little more than 700 miles apart, but the shortest fiber route might still be 800+ miles. Elevated microwave stations might be able to create a path that only adds like 50 miles longer than the straightline distance. Add in that, while microwaves and light both travel "at the speed of light", light going through glass is attenuated more than microwaves going through air. So it's both a shorter route and a faster transmission method.
