It's definitely better than the APE split, let's leave it at that

Hi. Used to have some popcorn stock on my XTB account, and when they issued the preffered units (it was APE or some name like this, and TBH I can't even see it on TradingView any more, so it is probably dead by now), XTB did not provide me any, but instead I received some sort of cash equivalent. I am worried that they could do the same with GME warrants, so I will probably transfer my shares before that date.

Ah, flushing out the shorts like APE did to AMC. Got it. :0)

I asked ChatGPT this question. Could be a few precedents, noting I haven’t checked for hallucinations.
Examples
1. Nikola (NKLA), 2020 – When Nikola merged with VectoIQ, warrants were issued with a strike price of $11.50. After NKLA stock surged above $60, warrant holders exercised, and shorts who were betting on dilution got squeezed as the stock stayed elevated for a time.
2. SPAC deals in general (2020–2021 boom) – Many SPACs issued public warrants. When the post-merger stock price spiked above the warrant strike, the warrants went deep in the money. Shorts expecting dilution sometimes got squeezed because retail and institutional buying pressure outweighed the effect of new shares.
3. Popcorn (2021 meme stock saga, indirectly via preferred equity “APE) – Popcorn issued APE units, which functioned similarly to warrants in terms of future dilution. Shorts expected a crash, but retail buying pushed both Popcorn and APE prices in ways that created short-covering rallies resembling squeezes.
👉 Key point: it’s not the warrant itself that squeezes the price — it’s the interaction of expected dilution, trader positioning, and unexpected demand.
Potential Stock Reaction and Why It Happens -
Issued as a strategic partnership (e.g., Jabil-Amazon). Price Up. Seen as valuable alliance, outweighing dilution concerns.
Large concurrent warrant offering (e.g., Sellas, Sangamo). Price Down. Market reacts negatively to dilution and immediate issuance.
Discounted or free warrant exercise offer (e.g., Amprius). Sharp Fall. Anticipates mass dilution, triggering sell pressure.

I sent Adam Aron the following Tweet.

CEOAdam,Why can't we get warrants like #GME GameStop that are non-dilutive? We get to help raise capital & pay off all AMCTheatres debt. We got screwed with the APE deal. This is a way to make it right and make it possible to do a 1/10 split.

Incorrect. APE was created by extracting value from AMC.

Ho. Lee. Shit.
Great catch.
What an APE fam we have. Still big numbers, and still representative of individual investors all over the globe.
Feels like a weight is lifted off. Like a surgery to remove a malignant tumor.
Let them keep goin, cuz fuck em. That’s why.

Saw this with APE. They can short the warrants like anything else. Nothing will happen.
BUT if what you say is accurate, then they’ll want to get rid of their shorts BEFORE warrants are issued, which means GME could squeeze before Oct 3. That to me seems more likely. Unless there are no naked shorts and this whole thing is just a nice little dividend for shareholders and dilution in a year. I’m okay with either scenario.

IIRC APE came about because the shareholders voted down a proposal to increase the authorized number of common shares. AMC wanted to do an offering to raise money to stay out of bankruptcy. Apes voted it down.
But AMC had authority to issue preferred shares, so they did. They went against the shareholder wishes to save the shareholders from their own stupidity.

Except (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), APE was given out as a 1:1 preferred share. Then *insanely* diluted, then converted into the common stock which effectively insanely diluted the common stock.
This is a 10:1 warrant with a set price, a set amount, and an expiration date. The naked shorts now either need to buy the warrants to fulfill their obligations to the people they sold their naked shares to, close their position before the warrants are given out, or keep the price below $32 for an entire year. And with GameStop constantly blowing earnings out of the water, and getting more cash on hand, that's going to be difficult to do.
