You mean a few people you know happened to perfectly time a massive runup?
That's like saying "Someone I know was able to retire picking stocks for their $AMC".
I'm saying PMs shouldn't be a large %. Someone always wins the lottery.

While index etf has a lower expense ratio, you need a trading account to purchase and sell the units. All sales incur DP charges, AMC needs to be paid for the trading account and your performance is not index performance but the price at which you buy and sell.
In short not recommended for beginners.

I've considered the management of active funds. For Parag Parikh, i feel Raunak Onkar and Raj Mehta can carry the fund well after Rajeev Thakkar. The entire team seems to be very well aligned with the investment philosophy of the AMC. And for HDFC, they have a good history of replacing their managers with equally good people.

I'm a 30 year old developer; I started my investment journey last year with the portfolio below:
Total allocation: 70k/month
Equity (50k):
1. Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund - 35k
2. HDFC Mid Cap Fund - 15k
Debt (20k):
1. EPF - 8k (deducted monthly)
2. PPF - 12.5k (1.5L on 1st April)
Reasons for fund selection - PPFC because it has good downside protection and acts as a stable core. HDFC Mid Cap as a satellite for growth. Both funds have experienced fund managers with proven track records.
Risk appetite - aggressive
Investment horizon - 20 years
Goal - wealth creation for retirement
App used - set up SIPs through AMC websites and monitoring through MF Central.
Looking for feedback and suggestions to improve.

In my case I have a HDFC account (recently opened for investments only, so if there's some kind of period to serve before investments then please educate me.)

Criteria which matters:
\- Cost!!! cost of AMC, cost of brokerage, and cost of currency conversion and withdrawals...and any other charges which I am not aware
\- Tax documents
\- Transparency of info
\- Security (which I think is not an issue as both platforms would be compliant to all the rules).
I have also heard about IBKR but it seems to be only good when investment amount is massive, but I probably will stay well under 10L INR. Plus, I've heard it's a pain to setup and track taxation, etc. IBKR might not be for me, atleast for now.

This is the conclusion I came to about trading for the everyday man. I still love it, but I remember them disallowing buying with AMC and GameStop. I was in a cabin in the woods with no internet when it happened. I came back to civilization up $15k, but was shocked when I found out the big wigs just basically made a call and disallowed buying because some important people were getting smoked with every regard buying. It was a moment where the little guy was winning, and it still got derailed. I never traded again. I still drool at options, and people’s “I went from 3k to 2.6 million” posts still fuck with me, but I know better.

This may be the single most bullish gain on AMC in the last 4 years 🚀

Yeah at the end of day he was being used by AA because AA knew investors would listen to him rather than the CEO of AMC. Once the APE coin R/S chatter started coming up that’s when Trey sold his shares because he knew what was about to happen to the stock and due to legal trouble Trey wasn’t allowed to tell us idk… but we all found out the hard way. AMC should’ve been kept on the edge of bankruptcy that’s when the investors had the power.
I had already sensed it was BS from the start it didn’t make sense to me why AA was going to do a R/S on AMC when the price was still over $9.

I bought a ton of it. I’m up more on HYMC than I’m down on AMC.

Extends short term debt obligation and lowers interest payments which frees up additional cash. Means lenders also know AMC isn’t going bankrupt.
