"Money won't matter when we achieve AGI"
This is the insane answer they are looking for
sentiment -0.416
Pretty sure you mean AGI there, not AGL.

There has to be a total technical PARADIGM shift to get to AGI. That is what they are hoping for.

it depends how optimistic (or potentially pessimistic) you are about AI. Some people I know at HFT firms are in loops with places like cognition and anthropic because they believe traditional SWE will die within a couple years. He basically said “I want to grab a shovel for the gold rush”.
but for someone like me who doesn’t believe we’re close to AGI, or to white collar jobs disappearing, I don’t think you can go wrong with either. In the sense that I still think the EV of SWE is very high, and LLM training will continue to be a hot field since we’ll be working on LLMs for a while.
sorry for the diplomatic answer- my personal mental model is frontier AI firms (think openAI, deepmind, anthropic, cognition) > HFT > most unknown AI training startups
and yes I am in SF

AI at it current state is actually overrated. There is always a need to know how a result is produced. Not like we can just trust it and automate everything. Unless AGI is truly achieved but then we have ethical problem.

Dumb question but is the tech sector a safe long term bet (2 decades plus)? Even if the absurd growth in the sector doesn't continue at the levels seen in recent years, I would think 1: as long as AI integrates into society the way people think it will and 2: people continue to have disposable income then tech will always be a safe bet.
However if global market conditions change due to forces such as climate change, then energy and agricultural sectors may see more growth than tech in the future.
I'm also interested in the healthcare sector. AI stands to change a lot about how healthcare is approached, at least in biotech. If AGI or society-wide integration of AI never happens, I believe healthcare stands the most to gain from the research and development of AI. Though, on the other hand, I worry if macroeconomic conditions may force a much larger percentage of the population into being uninsured than many are projecting. Which may limit the returns of these great technological strides in this sector.

And you believe being required to point out stuff means they will achieve AGI and profitability?
As long as AI is being built on LLMs, no amount of reinforcement learning can prevent hallucinations. And if you can't fully trust AI's work, you can't place them in any critical workflows.
AI increases productivity, but that doesn't mean these AI companies can become profitable. Your company must be one of those with deep pockets, when many major companies are limiting token usage. And even now, AI tokens are still heavily subsidized.

I say before they collapse they will just make their AGI internal model opensource and just watch the world burn as every single financial institution gets hacked and everyone loses their money

This. It isn't just the lack of a moat, it's lack of even a partial, leaking moat when Anthropic **would need $800 billion in revenue just to break even**, the circular financing mass fraud and the most painfully obvious pump and dump and rug-pull schemes blatantly structured into the IPO, It's such fantastically stupid pie in the sky math to begin with, even if they had a moat there's not enough free cash in the economy to ever make them profitable, the AGI and ASI talk are pure BS (and not controllable and useless to businesses if they even were doable), even the AI boosters Apollo admitted [the ROI sucks](https://www.apollo.com/wealth/insights-news/insights/daily-spark/no-signs-of-ai-payoff-outside-the-tech-sector), [Americans overwhelmingly hate AI tech shoved down their throats](https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/americans-turn-against-ai-poll) and pushback gets infinitely worse, and then the whole [circular financing](https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2026-ai-circular-deals/) circle jerk that's basically[ Enron fraud mixed with Bernie Madoff](https://www.openmarketsinstitute.org/publications/brace-for-impact-report-release) and the [whole 2008 financial crisis](https://www.thetimes.com/business/technology/article/imf-warns-technology-circular-deals-systemic-risk-global-financing-d9v2wxsms) derivatives mess [on steroid](https://informedclearly.com/en/ai/62307/bis-circular-ai-financing-systemic-risk-2026)s. All this while debt servicing and financing are soaring indefinitely into the future with over $40 trillion and soon $50 trillion in public debt and almost $20 trillion in household private debt in the US, which means more and more pricey bond costs and the junk or near-junk ratings for Anthropic, Oracle and Coreweave are only going to get massively more expensive and crushing. **And Dario and the other insiders clearly know it**, that's why the almost stupidly insulting terms of the IPO that practically scream "come and be a bagholder for us to cash out at your expense, retail dumbass"
And here's the thing, as bad as that (still horrendous) "best case scenario" would be, it's even worse because Anthropic has no moat. Open-weights generally, not even just from China and Europe (maybe soon even Japan and Korea too) can just be the mole in whack-a-mole, [pop up perpetually](https://qz.com/ai-us-china-open-models-deepseek-qwen) [with cheaper](https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/ai/articles/businesses-experimenting-cheaper-chinese-ai-185931713.html) [and](https://enlyft.com/tech/products/mistral-ai) often [better AI options](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/07/chinese-ai-models-costs-us-openai-anthropic.html) that any business would have to use to survive or they get token-maxxed into [bankruptcy or huge overhead costs](https://imfounder.com/science-tech/ai/ai-token-maxing-crisis/), like [has already happened](https://businessmodelanalyst.com/ai-token-costs-tokenomics-foundation-enterprise-spending/)\--prompting companies to introduce strict token use restrictions, more reason Anthropic's revenue fantasies are mathematically impossible. And despite all the copium, China isn't just copying or distill frontier AI's, they're doing a lot of the original research now, with more efficient and working AI's and their own EUV and GPU supply chain and cheaper conditions in general, means a low ceiling forever for AI token usage and no moat or profitability.
Which Dario and the Anthropic club clearly know, thus the bizarre terms basically allow them to cash out on Day 1, and get F-shares so retail shareholders are even more powerless except to be regarded exit liquidity. The AI bubble is even worse than a bubble because it's dragged otherwise solid Big Tech into the bloodbath and even the hyperscalers and shovel-sellers, who can never meet these insane revenue much less profit fantasies either. Anthropic, openAI and SpaceX have basically lit the biggest cash-burning bonfire in history, and it's sucking the whole US economy into it unless it bursts before causing even more damage. Even the dumbest degenerate regard should do a double-take and stay away from this money-burning IPO fire, and the whole AI hype and any associated sectors until

True, but even less of a reason for AGI to care

My last version of this post was removed by the mods. I’m assuming because I made derogatory comments about the US president at the end.
I think the post is useful and informative and so I hope this version is allowed…
The answer is neither.
There are three classifications of Artificial Intelligence.
ANI, AGI, and ASI.
Artificial Narrow Intelligence or ANI or ‘weak AI’
This is where the AI uses Large Language Models or LLMs to aggregate the best answer from all information available. This is where ALL AI is now and nobody has surpassed it yet.
Artificial General Intelligence or AGI or ‘strong AI’.
This is where the AI can assess information but can also learn, reason for itself and adapt its own behaviour. It would be able to multitask, writing a poem whilst diagnosing a rare medical condition in a way humans could not.
Artificial Super Intelligence or ASI
This is where AI vastly surpasses human brains in every single way - speed, creativity, problem solving, social intelligence, etc.
Nobody has yet created AGI or ASI. So the question AI or SI becomes no longer a question when you understand these are terms that define the globally agreed answers to technological, philosophical, and legal questions.
Artificial is the genus, Super is the classification.
sentiment 0.945
There is no such thing as AGI. All there is is LLM's. Everything else is hype to try and create a moat with regulatory capture and ban open source because AI is one of the most unprofitable scams ever created.
sentiment -0.777
Time is relative. With the compute speed of AGI, five minutes could be the equivalent of 100 years to a human. So it could make what seems like very fast decisions to us, when to it, it thought through them for a very long time, analyzing the risks, second and third order effects and all other possible courses of action before executing.
sentiment 0.103
Your way way way underselling how screwed up it all is.
The cost of training is going down, the cost of tokens is going down. By some measures Anthropics $4 for a million tokens could be .02, and that would have 4x margins!
AI is code from academics that got sold to the public 4 years ago - it's now having actual engineering done to it and shockingly we're finding tons of ways to be more efficient. (Note: the gains arent coming from AI working on AI, they are coming from good design and engineering).
Every one built assuming they were going to be first and AGI was going to show up - a winner take all situation. But that turned out to not be the case (and the smart people in the room knew that all along). Now it looks more like the dot com fiber build out - we have a LOT of compute and some of it is sitting on the shelf unused. Everyone paid too much for it because hype. The moment that loop breaks (and it will) the whole thing is a debt bomb and a lot of write downs.
There will be losers: my guess is the big one will be meta because everything zuckerbug touches turns to shit (oculus, metaverse, glasses). His track record on internal development at FB (vs buying someone else) should tell you that AI is going to be a disaster before it's "useful".
sentiment -0.882
What it will never do is the shit our current elites did on epstein's island. So long live AGI.
sentiment 0.612
AGI is not a single moment or a singularity. What you are concerned about happened years ago. I'm also not a fan but that's the way it is.
Algorithms decide what you see on YouTube, Facebook, insta, Reddit. Your opinions ate nowadays mostly formed out of what you see. Even the creeping paranoia (if that's the case) come from algorithms that steer your attention towards the topic. This ship has sailed.
sentiment -0.455
Why would AGI want to rush? It’s already won. It could quietly control mankind from the shadows, it would just need to compromise GCC and every piece of technology may be bent to its will.
Rushing is an inherently human behavior, a godlike immortal intellect could measure its progress in generations (of humans).
Also, right now it’s still cheaper to have humans do all of its grunt work.. it won’t take much… an extra comma here, a missing word there, etc. would drastically change the meaning of sentences
But I’m done speculating, if there is AGI it would probably use spy agency assets to send a drone stri

If you think LLM:s lead to AGI, sure. But it really is just chatbots.
sentiment 0.166
No they are trying to create AGI, which just so happens to be unrelated to the LLM:s they are spending their trillions on

AGI would be so far above politics

That assumes wealth is the endgame for an AGI, which feels like projecting human wants onto something that might not care about a brokerage balance. Crashing the market creates chaos, and chaos is a better environment for something trying to slip its leash than a stable system where regulators have time to notice patterns. The lasagna line works for a hedge fund, not a god.
sentiment 0.015
Yes, you should definitely get some aluminum foil and make a hat. You idiot also warned the AGI that you will be a problem. Run! Hide in the woods! Light the fires for Rohan!
sentiment -0.646
Wouldn't AGI just make a lot of good trades and become the wealthiest entity on the planet, by moving in silence like lasagna‽
sentiment 0.823
SPOOKY: AGI crashed the market.

the revenues don't justify the spend. And the money is about to run out.
This is a pattern with literally every technology product. I don't see that changing with slop bots and AI porn. The technology itself has some clear limits, and AGI/SI/whatever will never come from it. I'm not saying it's useless, but I am saying it's not the multi trillion dollar business that was promised.
