Hey everyone,
I’m 22 years old and sitting on **$7,000 CAD** in my Wealthsimple TFSA ready to invest. I have a really long time horizon (30–40+ years) and I’m looking for some realistic, no-nonsense advice.
I’ve been down a major rabbit hole researching different ETFs, but I’m suffering from serious choice overload. Here is the massive list of tickers I’ve been looking at:
* **XEQT** *(iShares Core Equity ETF Portfolio)* — Total market all-in-one equity.
* **XGRO** *(iShares Core Growth ETF Portfolio)* — Growth equity portfolio (80% equity / 20% bonds).
* **VFV** *(Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF)* — Pure US S&P 500 tracking.
* **VDY** *(Vanguard FTSE Canadian High Dividend Yield ETF)* — Canadian dividend blue-chips (mostly banks & energy).
* **XDIV** *(iShares Core MSCI Canadian Quality Dividend Index ETF)* — Quality-screened Canadian dividend stocks.
* **ZDV** *(BMO Canadian Dividend ETF)* — High-yield, quality-screened Canadian dividend fund.
* **XEI** *(iShares S&P/TSX Composite High Dividend Index ETF)* — Broad Canadian dividend index (banks, energy, telecoms, utilities).
* **DIV** *(AGF Systematic Canadian Equity ETF / iShares Diversified)* — Broad factor/dividend equity.
* **VEA** *(Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF)* — Developed international stocks outside North America.
* **HHIC** *(Harvest Canadian High Income Shares ETF)* — Covered call / high yield income strategy.
* **HYG** *(iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF)* — US high-yield corporate bonds.
# My Main Dilemma:
I know I have time on my side, but I’m torn between two main investing paths:
1. **Pure Total Growth (Broad-Market Indexing):** Going heavy into **XEQT** or **VFV** for maximum long-term growth and ignoring cash distributions for now.
2. **Dividend & High Income:** Loading up on dividend/covered call funds (**VDY, XEI, HHIC**) to watch monthly dividend payouts drop into my account for the psychological boost.
Thanks in advance!!!
