I realize this is an old thread, but I just stumbled upon it. When you compare GLOF to VT and DGEIX (which is DFA's long-running fund that's similar to AVGE), GLOF doesn't look so good:

I actually used to own the predecessor to GLOF in my Roth. It used to be listed under the ticker symbol ACWF. After years of lackluster performance compared to VT, I junked it. If I had to guess, it is probably the low vol factor exposure that's dragging it down.
If you add ACWV (iShares' global low vol) to testfolio you can see just how badly the low vol factor is doing compared to all others:
