I've only ever done trades in dollars because my account shows available dollars, so I tell it to spend those dollars to buy however many shares can be afforded when the limit price is met.
For the extra step of a calculator to figure out how many shares those dollars translate into, I'll try again another day. Hope this is it!
IE, I have $200,000. I want to buy $200,000 worth of Security X at Limit price $Y.YY. That's what gets rejected.
Sounds like you're telling me if the limit price were $10, I COULD put in a premarket limit order for during market activity to buy 20,000 shares at a limit price of $10.
They're saying the same thing; odd that Fidelity would allow one but not the other.
