I tend to agree with you. I would much rather put my energy into created a proper setup, where you try to minimize single point of failures.
That said I can see the argument for distributing your risk so all is not lost if you're compromised.
With proper self-custody, you might have a 0.001% chance of loss. Using exchanges, you might have a 2% chance. If you have split your bitcoin between 4 exchanges, you have a WAY higher chance of losing 25% of your corn, but it might not be as meaningful as losing it all. Just using random percentages to illustrate the point.
I'm partial to self-custody as I don't think bitcoin has much value if all bitcoin is held by 3rd parties. Normies will likely not be holding their own key, but I think we need to promote self-custody as much as possible, and we need the industry to make safer and easer solutions to help us get there.

(Full disclosure I fully expect them to sell shares on the ER pop as there're filings for it but it's clear that the shares get locked up quickly because then the stock becomes volatile to the downside after ERs. The ER volume has been WAY above average if you look back, so the dilution, likely to fund acquisitions, as they're not at risk of bankruptcy, is really insignificant, IMO. At some point the thesis should/could stick & this stock will re-rate higher IMO; there're a lot shittier stocks trading a lot higher, cough cough $CTM)

You are WAY late to the party. 

It's what others have said, "It's too expensive."
But just to add perspective to this, even if they continued their YoY growth momentum, it would still take them 2-5 years to get to a positive P/E (The time it would take you on paper to even begin making a profit). So, unless something massive changes in their development, they are just too extremely expensive.
This is why some people (like Buffet) believe there is a gross overvaluation in the market. People have forgotten fundamentals. The money isn't growing as fast as our hopes and dreams and the things we think these companies can achieve are far more into the future than people are acting presently.
In short, it needs to drop WAY more to make any real investor put their smart money down.

Obviously it's not on the same scale as Amazon or Uber, and I wouldn't even compare the importance. "Nothing comparable in human history" isn't right, there's the railroad, WW2, etc. It's big, yes, it's just not unprecedented.
Microsoft and Google are funding most of this out of operating cash flow from businesses that are already very profitable. If demand disappointed they could just cut, and their earnings would look better immediately. They can keep it rolling as long as they choose to, the question is whether they'll want to.
If you're talking about Anthropic and OpenAI, then yes, they're burning a shitload and don't have other ways of making money. I don't think Microsoft or Google actually want those companies to disappear necessarily, because they're providing them very valuable data, even if indirectly. Probably a good part of why Microsoft has so much money in OpenAI for instance.
What do you think these companies will end up doing? I think they'll keep pricing each other out and forcing each other to spend enormous amounts training the next best model to keep demand up, until one of them can't keep pace. Companies are building infrastructure and workflows around these services, and they'll pay enterprise rates for them, the same way firms happily pay Autodesk thousands per seat per year when Blender is free. I'm not saying anyone's locked into a single vendor, but they'll keep paying for one, I don't think there's a future where everyone's stopped developing AI models and offering a service like they are especially to enterprise.
It probably isn't going to be Anthropic or OpenAI hitting zero. Could be next quarter, could be five years, I really don't think there's some imminent thing happening in the next year. Google can subsidize off search cash flow essentially forever and they're probably okay being behind the people who are spending WAY more climbing to the top as they, slowly, probably train off everything they're providing the same way something like Alibaba is.

My general strategy is theta squeezing on equity derivates by selling options which go against the trend:

1. I prefer to accumulate bluechip monopoly stocks. My portfolio includes majorly of BSE, MCX and KFintech. The stocks don't need to be monopolies but the type you are bullish in the long run on. There is also a good mix of Goldcase, Silvercase, Liquidcase and some high div stocks like Coal India in the mix (purely for pledging - no derivative trading on these).
2. Start by buying on dips and accumulating 25% of a lot through dips. In this process, I get a sense of various resistances, supports and intraday behaviour of the stocks I intend to trade derivatives on.
3. Once significant stocks have been accumulated (enough to get 2x of margin needed to take delivery of 1 lot of the stock you wish to trade derivates for), pledge them.
4. In the first week of every month look for stocks in your portfolio which have either:
* Dipped below the "max pain" of that month's derivatives by 2 option strikes: Sell puts which are 3 strikes lower than current price. I prefer the put-call-ratio to be between 0.5 to 0.7 while entering the trade.
* Risen above the "max pain" of that month's derivatives by 2 option strikes: Sell calls 3 strikes above from current price. I prefer the put-call-ratio to be between 1.1 to 1.2 while entering the trade. I usually avoid selling calls as I believe that in the long run, stocks tend to go up, and selling calls contradicts the selection criteria of the stocks to begin with.
* If the stock is at max pain (+- 1 strike price) and has put-call-ration between 0.75 to 1 or so, then I prefer to buy a FUT + sell call (3 - 4 strikes away). Though I now think it might be better to just buy the stock instead in such scenarios. This part is something I am still unsure of.

5. Square off your position if sold option has lost 50% of it's value 15 days before expiry. Rollover if you fail. DO NOT ATTEMPT DELIVERY. I LEARNT THIS THE HARD WAY.
6. 30% of the profits generated should go to Liquidcase, 30% to gold and silver, remaining to be used for step 1 (or third scenario in step 4).
So far this setup is working well for me. Happy to know thoughts on improving this.

Sometimes it works out perfectly. Underlying stock goes up, but not *enough* so that you end up making money on both ends. And then you do it again, and again.
But sometimes the stock shoots WAY past your strike price and it gets REALLY hard to roll with any kind of good ratio.

Companies earn money. You buy shares in these companies, and over time, hopefully, those companies (and thus, you) earn more.
Warren Buffet indicated he could be hitting 40-50% returns with a small portfolio. He read financial statements and disclosures for fun when he was a kid. Real life of the party type, I imagine.
Yes, it is absolutely possible to beat the market, even long run, and you and I are unlikely to. A lot of people go broke trying for the quick buck. That's not the play.
The reason it's not possible to do this at scale for funds is that those gains are from small opportunities the overall market hasn't noticed, and funds' massive size would move the market, washing out the opportunities.
If you buy and hold low-cost funds, you'll do better than most. You'll do WAY better than most if you invest automatically from every paycheck, max out your retirement contributions, don't panic when the market drops, and don't take big flyers on the next big thing. Spend time reading up on investing. A lot of it boils down to what you're reading in these responses, but you'll better understand why, and what the nuances are.

Investment is always easier said and done. It gets worse when you had 20% profits a week ago and now you are 20% under water. But long term steady fast is the ONLY WAY that I know of to make large profits and pay low tax. I mean, multi-baggers profit. Not everyone suits for this.
