80% VOO 20% VXUS. Two funds. Make it simple bud

VT is easy because it is a single low cost ETF which gives you pretty much the entire world's market and is already split between US and international markets.
Some people love it for this simplicity. Other's prefer not to because they think VT has too much international.
If you have high conviction about the AI or tech side, then buy something like VTI (US market) or VOO and add in some VGT (tech) or SPMO (momentum based fund) and some VXUS for some international exposure (if you want it).

If I’m reading this right, I’d flip this. I’d put the TDF in your 401k and put VT or VTI+VXUS or VOO+VXF+VXUS (they are equivalent in the right percentages) in your Roth IRA.
The reasoning is you put your most “aggressive” funds in the Roth because they have the most growth potential and therefore have the best chance to provide you with the most tax-free income. The general investment guidance being Roth is where your equities go and traditional is where your fixed income/TDFs/Fixed allocation funds go.

SCHB and VXUS are broad-market ETFs, so you’re not betting everything on one company or one sector. You bought a piece of the market, and the market has always had its ups and downs.

401k is set aggressive following the markets. I have the majority is pretax with a small amount going into a Roth 401k and an after-tax. Spare weekly change goes into VXUS & VtI. Playing the long game & not having to worry about the individual stocks, been doing great this way the past 10 years or so

Lots of overlap.
FXAIX is inside VTI. FSKAX and VTI covers the entire US.
I'd probably consolidate as many of my accounts as I could. I personally wouldn't want to pay an advisor fee for what I could essentially get by just buying VTI/VXUS (or their equivalents) you should research this so you don't continue overlapping. A lot of the popular funds mentioned are just variations of the same thing. FXAIX=VOO=SWPPX=SPYM etc etc.
The more holdings you have, the more tickers you see...it doesn't mean you're more diversified. You gotta think about what's inside the funds. There's a good chart for building an effective and simple boglehead approved portfolio, lemme grab it.

I like this chart by u/apollosmith which highlights the funds necessary to construct a comprehensive and well diversified portfolio.

Maybe this will help you sort out some of the overlap you’re staring down.
VT = Total World Stock ETF
VTI = Total US Stock ETF
VOO = US S&P 500 Stock ETF
VXUS = Total International Stock ETF
VXF = US Extended Market Stock ETF, ie everything not in the S&P 500, eg US small/mid cap stocks
VBR = Vanguard Small Cap
VSS = Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US Small-Cap ETF
Zero overlap between VOO, VXF and VXUS
VTI contains 100% of VOO and VBR
VXUS contains 100% of VSS
VT=VTI+VXUS
VTI=VOO+VXF
If you want to invest in the whole world, you can do either 1) 100% VT, or 2) 65% VTI + 35% VXUS or 3) 52% VOO + 13% VXF + 35% VXUS or pick your poison on how you want to weight US large, small/mid cap and international stocks. So ends the Vanguard investment math lesson of the day.

If you can, absolutely. You’ll be light years ahead of your peers. One thing I would suggest though, before you do that, is to build an emergency fund. Save up about 3 months worth of expenses, and then put it in a high yield account. Once you save up that, rock and roll. I would put some in VXUS too, and maybe mix it up with QQQM or some thematic fund.
Again, you’ll be so far ahead of your peers, that you’ll be doing very well when you are older. You want to strive for 25%, but for most young adults and those getting started in the workforce, that’s not an option. Keep it up!

If you can afford to do that monthly, then go for it. I'd do some kinda split with VXUS though.

The pension is like having 2 million in bonds so I’d just VOO for life (some here will split with 20-40% VXUS)

For your Roth IRA, contrary to what it might seem from reading reddit, there is no one perfect asset allocation and everything else is wrong. You could certainly make a case for the portfolio you have. But the fact you are at Fidelity and have only Vanguard ETFs shows the effects of the Vanguard echo chamber and hive mind on reddit. Vanguard ETFs (VOO, VTI, VT, VXUS, etc.) are constantly spammed on reddit so people think they *have* to buy them or they won't be cool or something.
If I had a Roth IRA at Fidelity I would take advantage of Fidelity's ZERO mutual funds with 0.00% expense ratios and have something like 70% FZROX and 30% FZILX.

my VTI and VXUS are both down since buying them about 3 months back, I should hold right?
sentiment 0.190
For my ROTH I am on Fidelity but I am invested in VTI and VXUS, but I feel I am still early enough to swap it into FZROX and FZILX for the future.

Why such a high weighting in VXUS?

>But for my brokerage I plan to continue VTI and VXUS.
Why? Because you "heard" that "mutual funds are not as tax efficient as ETFs in a taxable account"? That is out of date misinformation that is unfortunately widespread on reddit.
The last year FZROX distributed taxable capital gains was 2021. FZILX has *never* distributed taxable capital gains. In 2026 there is no difference in "tax efficiency" between the mutual funds FZROX and FZILX and the ETFs VTI and VXUS in a taxable account. And both FZROX and FZILX have lower expense ratios (0.00%) than VTI (0.03%) and VXUS (0.05%).

Hello everyone! I wanted some advice on my investments for my ROTH, brokerage and my HYSA.
Currently I am on the Fidelity platform for my ROTH and brokerage. My ROTH is 65% VXUS, 20% VTI and 15% QQQM. And my brokerage is 60% VXUS and 40% VTI. I plan on removing the QQQM investments going forward and to put it back into the main investments. I also am considering FZROX and FZILX instead of VTI and VXUS. But for my brokerage I plan to continue VTI and VXUS. Let me know about any advice to consider for these two.
My HYSA is with Citizens but I want to change it for one with a better APY, and would love suggestions!
Thank you any and all advice is appreciated!

You’re buying a lot of the same stuff. Just do VT or VTI/VXUS. Way simpler and you don’t have to think about it
sentiment 0.000
VT has a higher expense ratio than the combination of VTI and VXUS. So there is basically no scenario where it could outperform. Also, when using a taxable brokerage it is better to have VTI+VXUS for US citizens because of the foreign tax credit on VXUS.

We're 51/55
Our portfolio is 70/20/5
Equities are 75% VTI & 25% VXUS
The bonds are in the short/mid and tip towards US treasury, but also some investment grade corporates.
Total portfolio @ 8M, we are fully retired and debt tree.
Hope that helps. How aggressive we each want to be is purely personal.
sentiment 0.551
It has nothing to do with performance. Those who say to use single VT say so because its easier. Those who say to use an explicit split say to do so so you can control your exposure to fluctuations in foreign currency plus you also get the foreign tax credit with such a split into VTI and VXUS
sentiment 0.687
Stop trading, start investing. Specifically into broad market index funds. VOO, VT, VTI, VXUS, VUG, etc are just a few safe bets. If you dont want to risk drawdowns when you need the money, put it into a high yield savings
sentiment 0.316
How solid is the cash balance? Is it 6 months of expenses?
If so, VTI/VXUS at the same ratio as FZROX/FZILX

Buffett is very bullish on American business culture and unique advantages.
Collins and others point out that a large chunk of American corporate profits are from international activities. VTI and VXUS are also highly correlated. Globalization has lessened the advantages of International.

VXF = US Extended Market Stock ETF, ie everything not in the S&P 500, eg US small/mid cap stocks
