2 things went wrong for you: the way price moves in relation to vol and the greeks is actually less important than understanding how brokers work. if you could be assigned shares and dont have the margin to cover it, they liquidate to prevent that. HERE is the gotcha: they asses the risk of assignment, not you. in the last 15 minutes before the close, they know that in after hours it could easily drift and trigger assignment and if you dont have a market order in flight to liquidate (like you have a limit thats about to hit) they liquidate the spread.
ive had it play out like that and some brokers are shittier than others. ive also been assigned 1.5m worth of qqq. that absolutely happens in practice and can work out just fine, if you can carry it.
id argue that its crucial to understand how you close the positions. like the scenarios. if this ill do that. claude is pretty good at explaining what you should be framing and looking out for. but generally, if youre relying on something expiring close to your strike, you might need a load of liquidity to actually ride it out to expiration. that kinda sucks cause a load of spreads are most profitable in those last 15

• $TTWO hit $265.94 in July. September 30 close? $207.50.
• DOWN 22% heading into GTA 6.
• FY26 net bookings: $6.72 BILLION.
• FY27 guidance: $8–8.2 BILLION. Nearly 20% growth.
• GTA 6 launches November 19.
• Rockstar is selling a $400 collector's box that DOESN'T EVEN INCLUDE THE FUCKING GAME.
