It's all just a drama to buy themselves a bit more time with lower short term rates even while inflation burns out of control. The "good family fight". I wonder who came up with that before they all decided that 3 of them would dissent. The real elephant in the room is FORTY TRILLION DOLLARS and growing, and long dated treasuries are not playing ball anymore. Everyone loves a good story - from the dullest pension fund investors to over-caffeinated stock market day traders.
I watched an old clip of Alan Greenspan on David Letterman the other day. Dave: "so what do you do anyway?" then Greenspan pulls out a dollar bill between his hands and holds it up in front of the audience. Well, I for one dont buy the story anymore, and that's why I bought gold. It's all talk. And now inflation is running away and theyre doing nothing about it - and the only reason they wouldnt do anything about it is because their hands are tied. Surley the Treasury has shown them the numbers - when is social security going to run out (7 years). What do their best private surveys tell them what the public reaction will be (ie how much chaos will be unleashed when banks start failing).
