We very very fortunate now that IBKR has a physical presence here in UAE, we can now fund our account directly using AED with no Fees. The fund will reflect as AED in your IBKR account. I use ENBD to fund my account, and it has no fees, ( IBKR’s local account is from FAB, so Basically it’s a local transaction from ENBD to FAB )
During buys, you can let IB do it the conversation automatically, compared to converting it manually which saves overtime.
And even if you convert it manually inside IB, the rates are better overall so you can never go wrong here especially that AED is pegged to USD.
No bad experience yet, maybe during retirement, I’ll do a deep dive and secure proper methods. But for sure it’s going to be manually filled.
