In Summe deswegen sehr uninteressant.

No, had to skip one because low time and one test failed and then couldn't complete final one in time. But second OA was automatic so I think its threshold based more than anything, maybe CV screening comes after second OA?

Should I give up?

I am entering 2nd year as physics undergrad at **Imperial College London**. Since most of my friends want to become physicists and not work in finance, I only found out about this industry recently through the internet and I was planning to apply for **2027 Internship cycle**. However since I am quite uneducated about this industry I only realised now that the applications open around this time and so I am very unprepared. In terms of my preparation, I am about half way through Sheldon Ross' **"A first course in probability"** and have started training mental maths about a week ago.
Should I bother applying this cycle? or should I wait till next year to apply when I have a lot more preparation and a better CV. What about spring weeks, should I still bother applying to them?
p.s. I know I have made a very stupid mistake by preparing so late and tbh I was and still am kinda of confused on what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Hi,
In France, we have companies called \*\*ESNs\*\*. They hire people and then send them to work for their clients, including investment banks.
Some of them offer positions such as \*\*Quantitative Analyst, Quant Developer or even Quant Research\*\*, where you can potentially work within a bank’s Front Office team while technically being employed by the consulting company.
I’m not sure what the equivalent is called in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, or whether this model is as common there.
My main question is: \*\*is it a good idea to start a Quant career through this type of company?\*\*
Does being a consultant rather than directly employed by the bank have any negative impact on your CV or future opportunities?
Or does it mainly depend on the actual mission? For example, if your first experience is through a consulting company but you’re doing genuine Quant/Front Office work inside a bank, would that still be considered good experience?
I’d be particularly interested in hearing from people familiar with the \*\*UK or European Quant job market\*\*.
Thanks!

I am currently a student in Economic Cybernetics at ASE Bucharest (Romania) and will soon start my second year (my undergraduate program is 3 years).
My dream is to break into quantitative finance, specifically as a Quant Researcher (QR). I cannot afford a Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) in the US or UK, so my valid options are in continental Europe. Realistically, I have never participated in math olympiads and do not have the ultra-rigorous math background required for ETH Zurich or prestigious French M1/M2 programs (El Karoui etc). The most realistic and worthwhile paths for me are MFEs/Quantitative Finance master's degrees in the Netherlands, which are among the best-ranked outside ETH and France(from what I ve heard).
*My undergraduate curriculum aligns well with the admission requirements for Dutch programs, so I am not required to take deficiency courses or tests.*
Do I have a realistic chance of breaking into the QR field in Amsterdam with an MSc from TU Delft, UvA, or Erasmus University Rotterdam, or is this just a fantasy? My plan is to work at a top firm there (Optiver, Flow Traders, IMC) for a couple of years and then transition to the UK/US or pursue a PhD.
Are there enough prop trading firms/hedge funds in Amsterdam, and is the local market mature enough to build top-tier CV experience? Is it worth the effort for a Romanian student, or do non-Olympiad applicants typically get rejected?

The Ivy League investors don't know everything, they can't, there are only so many of them and they only have so much time. They are also, and this is the big thing, they are not that smart really, like they aren't superhuman, these are perfectly fallible people.
They have risk managers telling them to structure their portfolio in a certain way, they have managers around them that they don't want to look stupid in front of and they need very good reasons to push back on them. Some of these institutional investors are almost on autopilot, trading within very strict boundaries and guidelines.
Retail doesn't have any of that, and they can have an edge if they know enough but most people underestimate the level of research and due diligence that is required.
Like, I know someone who works as an analyst for a company that sells soda streams, distributes soft drinks to hospitality businesses and bottles and manufactures other soft drinks. He has made a killing specifically on the stocks of hospitality and soft drinks companies.
He just knows more about specific niches of that industry than perhaps anyone else in the country. No institutional investment company would ever take him on, he didn't go to the right schools and has the complete wrong CV for it, but they are not beating him on trading in that sector.

1.the CV screening is after OA. Yeah big companies like SIG, JS, Citadel, Optiver etc.... all work on signals since a big part of the application process is handled by AI. All the things that you stated are (atleast intuitively) good signals and how they are weighted is even unknown to most of the people working at these companies.
2.Yes projects and skills play a major role.
3.IDK im in my bachelors and im just repeating what other people i know that work in quant have said to me

Hey do you have any insider's insights about how they filter CV? Do they filter out based on olympaid medalists, top ivy league schools or prodigies from childhood or do they give a look if someone has great projects, skills, etc after OA? Especially for quant researcher roles (interns)?

But years of work experience in a field you might not be interested in. You'd have to look at what transferrable skills you'll get, I'm sure it is also versatile. If there are none, the main benefit will be time filled on your CV.
I don't think anyone will say that a quant role is likely. You'd benefit from having backup plans in any case. Virtually every MORSE student aspires to finance and many of them will aspire to quant.
