I totally understand how you feel as I see this every day. I work in healthcare in a CCRC which is a continued retirement community. Many of my personal care patients have children but they’re often busy and don’t visit often. I find myself as their provider, going on Amazon and buying them things they need because my heart breaks for them.
I feel there should be more resources for senior citizens, especially if they don’t have children or available family.
If you don’t want to burden your family, is there someone local that would be willing to help your wife with the tasks she is overwhelmed with? Not investing of course. But balancing her checkbook? Maybe you could meet someone locally and establish a relationship with them making it known to them your thoughts. I’m a nurse practitioner and my actual job does not consist of buying items off Amazon, putting clothes away, helping folks un-hoard their apts, but my heart would never allow me to do otherwise.
