Youre right but you're missing one crucial factor. In my hypothetical as well as real life, the LAST is the last traded price. Its not the BID or ASK or MKT price. Your understanding of how MMs profit is correct, youre just not considering that in my example, the last is $300, that doesn't mean the bid is $300, or the ask.
Go look at a bid/ask spread, then look at the last and look at the MKT price. They're all different, and that's where the nuance comes in. If you place a buy order with the bid, youre likely to sit for a bit before the order fills. If you place an order at the ask, you'll likely be filled immediately.
Does that make sense?
And as far as the hedge fund thing you're right about that, I was just using the example to contrast different classifications of market participant

Yeh i was in his communtiy.. just ask him to show his entry price he will bann u, cause u will see fractional fills, what isnt possible on live trading on his Broker. He also gets filled on the BID and can sell on the ASK thats also sign of sim tradeing. He ist just a little non profitable scammer.....
