Die Formel ergibt sich überhaupt erst, wenn man von mehreren aufeinanderfolgenden Wetten ausgeht. Deswegen macht es auch nur Sinn, sie in einer Situation anzuwenden, in der es um mehrere aufeinanderfolgende Wetten geht. Wie gesagt, das steht genau so im ersten Satz des Wikipedia-Artikels:
