Must have failed two or more anti-depressants in the current episode. This can't be interpreted as having tried a couple of anti-depressants over the lifetime. So, yeah, I wouldn't say they are functionally the same thing. I have been diagnosed with depression. The specific language they use is "Current moderate episode of major depressive disorder without prior episode". This is where the trial population comes into play. There is a reason why ATAI and CMPS opted to much more difficult trials in TRD rather than going for smaller MDD trials like DFTX.
